Default Tow Hook?

The foam battery cover on my 2014 Stingray coupe has a provision for storage of a factory tow hook. I thought maybe it was missing but research has led me to believe that they are only included in vehicles for export. Do these cars only break down outside the US? I’d like to get one for piece of mind but can’t seem to find a factory fit hook, seems like what’s available are meant to be installed permanently on track cars, anodized aluminum hook eyes, etc., very attractive but I want something utilitarian. Is there a source for a reasonably priced factory hook that fits in the battery cover?

I think you can get on thru a chevy dealer but others have gotten them thru some of the vet sponsors.

Default Tow Hook

I have just bought a 2016 C7, yet to be delivered from out of state. Aren't there tow hooks of some kind on these cars?? If not, what is the procedure for securing them to a trailer?

I have a 2014. There isn't a hook location in the front, but there is one on the rear. I got this one. Maybe the Z51 and Z06 has a hook in the front

Over the tire straps or they can use the tie down points on the frame. Some guys use "through the wheel" straps and other loop the straps over the a-arms. I use over-the-tire straps. The rest can battle amongst themselves over the other methods and what's "correct" or not.

No car gets secured to a trailer using a tow hook only.

It is great for loading however

Great sense of humor.
As others mentioned, first thing you need to do is discover if your car has the hook receivers. Some cars have none, some cars have only one, others have one at each end.
Our 2017 Z51 has receivers front & rear. It would be quite a project to add receivers aftermarket.
On our car, there is a small section of the grill that must be popped out to install the hook, on others (GS?Z06?) the openings in the grill are said to line up to accept the hook properly.
At the back, there is a small cover plate low on driver side that pops out (I scratched mine removing it) to allow access to the receiver.
The GM hook is ugly as sin but strong, I think you could hoist the whole car with it but the receiver isn't that strong; supposedly just for pulling the car on a hard/level surface.
Same hook fits front or rear. The receivers are aluminum but the GM hook is steel, be gentle installing it the first few times so you don't bugger the threads.

The hook is (was?) available from your local Chevy parts department, over $100 in 2017. Some of the aftermarket hooks look much nicer but probably aren't as strong. GM hook fits into the cutout, the aftermarket ones don't fit but the foam can be cut to shape.

You can also buy a pair of T-hooks that slip into the frame slots front or rear and use a bridle from the tow truck, but they may be inaccessible if you're stuck in deep snow, sand, etc. Ask me how I know...
So I carry the GM hook in the cutout for it, and keep the T-hooks in the rear cubby.
Cheers!

I have a 2014 and had heard that there was no tow hook on either end of the car, but now I am going to have to check the rear fascia and see what’s actually behind the removable panel.

Isn't the recommended method to use a bridle under the frame?

I've seen kits to install a tow hook reviever on the front of the '14s.

Yeah I wouldn't trust metal from Lithuania.....
You can buy a GM one around the net. Not cheap but you can. I did score a new one off eBay last year for $50.

I guess the answer is "recommended by who?"
The bridle under the frame method has advantages; but takes up more space in your trunk, requires access to the frame slots (stuck in sand, mud, snow problems), can damage your front splitter/bumper from an upward angle pull. But is stronger and easier to use in some situations..
I have both the GM tow hook and 2 t-hooks for the frame slots but not the bridle itself, tow trucks usually have that.

I think this was the one I purchased on eBay prior to my first Track Day last year. I initially purchased a cheaper one on Amazon but immediately returned it for quality reasons. It didn't screw into the tow hook location well. I didn't want to cross-thread or strip the threads. I don't think I would be worried about the tow hook failing. The tracks I visited seem to to full of those cheap Amazon type tow hooks on many different types of vehicles. I never heard of any tow hook issues. Even the cheap amazon hooks are full of mostly all positive reviews. The Ebay tow hook I purchased on Ebay seems to be well made and screws in smoothly. It must be about a !/4" longer than the OEM I had to make a slight adjustment to get it to fit in the Factory storage location on top of the battery.

Everybody on the C8 forum that bought one commented on the high quality of the hook. Me too.

I pulled the small access panel on the rear fascia on my car and confirmed that my 2014 does not have a receiver installed for a tow hook. So, none on my car at all, front or rear.

I installed the receiver for a tow hook on my 2014. The entire front nose has to be removed. The one I installed was a bolt on. There are YouTube videos on removing the front nose. It wasn’t that hard, just intimidating.

My 2019 has the rear. I have the hole in the front passenger side. I think that's there too but I have no way to get the hook in as the base grill has no opening to pass the hook through.
