We are getting the windshield replaced on our 2017, the glass company says they use a quick setting adhesive for the job and I can drive away an hour after completion. That sounds pretty quick to me, but in Bowling Green I don't see the cars sitting around for hours after coming off the assembly line. Any experience with this quick setting stuff?
BTW, our insurance is happy with an OEM windshield, glass shop said it would take 2 weeks to get the OEM, I called our friendly dealer and they said there are only 11 C7 HUD windshields in the whole United States right now and most of those are probably being held for someone. Glass shop implied that aftermarket would be no quicker.
My HUD windshield was replaced with a Pilkington windshield by Safelite. Zero issues and the car was ready to go an hour after the windshield was installed. The drive home was on the interstate at 75+mph without issue and now many months later......no issue.
I'd be more worried about brand than set time. Most use 3M which is probably one of if not the best out there.

Around here the glass companies do not keep the cars for an extended period of time after a windshield replacement. Whatever adhesive they use seems to allow for a quick pickup.
All reputable replacement companies are using a quick setting urethane for safety reasons , the adhesive manufacturers have come light years from the days where it took sometimes 36 hours to fully cure
Today's adheasives have a much higher "green" strength in a short period of time than in the past and the reason for this improvement is because all cars now use the windshield as part of the structure of the car and it's safety systems . Just some food for though , the passenger side airbag bounces off the windshield at an average of 250 MPH , this is why in the past , it was not a good idea to release a car to a customer before green strength was attained.
Jim , there will be no problem as long as the installer follow the adhesive manufacturers instructions for installation
I’ve replaced quite a few windshields (and other fixed glass) and that’s all I use. I shoot a bead around the glass, and I really don’t have much more than five minutes to get it in place on the vehicle before that stuff starts hardening up to the point where I’m not sure it will “squish” properly to make a good seal. Blue tape to keep it from creeping down initially, but after an hour that sucker is very much on there and good to go.
