My back tires are definitely not very grippy at all anymore, I can't go full throttle in first through 3rd gear so I have to be very careful. The plan is to replace them in the spring with Continental DWS06+ (which is what I already have up front right now)
Is that a good thing? Different tires front and rear?
While not the same car I had DSW06+ on my S2000 a few years ago and was impressed. I'd use them again . When I get a vette I will actually go with the Michelins for fall/spring tires as I'd like the run flat capability.
When my original front tires wore out at 32k due to the bad factory alignment, I went with the Continental DWS06+ tires and they are great! No more Ackerman effect and a very reasonable price too. I don't push the car super hard in the turns but to me the handling feels just as stable as the original MPSS tires. I still have my original back tires (with almost 69,000 miles on them!) and when I replace them in the spring I'm getting DWS06+ out back as well. A lot of people that use these tires on many different makes of cars have reported that they have very long tread life too, and even though they are all seasons, the handling is still reasonably close to summer tires, at least on the street (if you're tracking the car you'd obviously want to avoid all seasons)
omg you mixed brands and the car still functions? I guess the internet was wrong.

When my front tires wore out I still had tons of tread left on the rears, so it didn't make sense to me to replace those at the time. And it was always my intention to go with the DWS06+ when the original tires wore out. Now that the backs are needing replacement I will be getting the matched set. It wasn't ideal, but I don't take the car to the track, nor do I drive it super hard in the corners, so I really had no problems at all over the last 3.5 years with my mismatched tires. I used to do the same thing with my C5 for the 9 years I owned it. I would often switch brands of tires, but my fronts and rears were never wearing out at the same rate so I was always just buying two tires at a time and for a period of time in between the transitions I would have a mismatched set.

That is weird. My tires were about even with the fronts being 1/32 (estimated but probably less) more than the rear. On my MBs they all wore evenly and didn't need a rotation. The last MB I had, I got complacent and didn't do the rotation. Fronts were 7/32 and the rear were 3/32. Bottom line, I never had that situation. Either all 4 wear the seme or the rear wore out faster. Never had the front wear out before the rear.
Don't forget time plays a factor on tires also not just miles. I had 8 year old MPSS with 3mm on front and 6mm on back. hated getting rid of them. But put on new MPSS. What a difference, quiet and great handling. My original rubber was quite hard.
At 8 years, your tires are aged out. Regardless...

My fronts wore out early on my C7 because the factory alignment was off though. Otherwise it's likely they would still be going to this day and I would've been able to replace all four at the same time.

That sucks. Did they screw up the alignment or did it come undone from use? I am hearing that sometimes, it isn't right out of the box and it is set up with wrong specs. Not sure which but so far mine were fine.
Here's my two cents. I had heard the stories of how newer technology had made the run flats ride better and not so noisy. So I replaced the tires on my 2016 Z06 a little over a year ago with a new set. NOT!!!! Just as harsh a ride, and just as loud!! I now have a 2019 GS and will be replacing the tires shortly with NON run flats. I'll take my chances on getting a flat so I can have a quieter and more comfortable ride. By the way, I can't remember the last time I had a flat on any of my cars.

I can. 2 weeks or so ago. Let's call it 4 in the last 3 years. 20 years prior to that, nothing.

I'm not quite sure if the factory alignment was good right from the beginning or if it drifted off as time wore on. For the first 20,000 miles it looked to me as if my tires were wearing out very evenly, so all along I thought the alignment was good, but then it caught me by surprise at the 32k mark when I looked under the front of the car and saw that the insides of both tires was worn so badly that the cords were showing (the outsides still had a lot of tread left) I have heard a lot of people on here mention that the factory alignment is off after getting it checked within the first few thousand miles of ownership. I now wish I had done that myself.

At 30K (Forgot what the mileage was) I believe the tires were still wearing evenly front and back. I have to believe that it would have shown by now if there was unevenness. When the old tires came off, there was still some meat on it but I didn't trust it enough to run it to the cords. I have heard the same thing you have about the factory alignment. Might bring it in to have it checked just for the hell of it.

Given how these cars can be it's always a good idea to get the alignment checked. I ended up getting a free alignment on mine, because shortly after I replaced the front tires, my torque tube needed to be replaced under warranty. And when they put the car back together again they needed to do a full alignment (they also gave me all new transmission fluid too, which was pretty awesome as it saved me from having to pay for the triple flush!)

Given how the roads around Milwaukee are, it might be a good idea to buy yourself an alignment rack. Next spring.

The roads are pretty smooth for the most part in my travels. In my 39 years of driving I have only had a couple of times where I've owned a car that was out of alignment. My daily driver Civic has 260,000 km on it and it has never had an alignment. I just recently replaced a set of tires that had over 102,000 km on them and they were still wearing out evenly. The shop I went to usually tries to push alignments on people by showing them their worn out tires and the spec sheet from their quick alignment check but they weren't able to do that with me
