Yes, the card can have a maximum of 64 GB and must be formatted in a special file system. Unfortunately I forgot what it was called.

Insert a FAT32 formatted SD card, Class 10 preferred, into the glove box SD card reader. Before inserting Ensure the switch on the side of the card is set to record. 32GB and smaller SD cards usually come formatted FAT 32 but larger cards may be formatted as exFAT or may be blank. Either way the card needs to be formatted to the FAT 32 format before the PDR will recognize it.

^^^. What Bill said. Plus be careful when inserting the card that you don't accidentally move the side switch away from the Record position.

I have a 1TB card and it works fine as long as they are formatted to Fat 32

I don't have a C8 but I believe they are formatted in the ExFAT format which will not work in a C7 as previously mentioned. You can format any size SD card in FAT32 using free programs.

Searching online appears to confirm that C8's use ExFat, not Fat32.

Dinnows - has the PDR in this car ever worked? Above information is correct - SD card must be formatted Fat32. It can be any size - I have used up to 1TB. Note that 32gb will hold 11+ hours of recordings. Due to file size limits, you need to STOP and START every 90 minutes or so. If recording stops due to file size you don't get a warning. See SD lock / unlock switch positions below.
