Hello,
I have had my 2015 C7 for 3 years now and Navigation doesn’t work I end up just using my iPhone Google maps etc instead, due to it being a hassle.
I have seen YouTube videos where it says to purchase a software update from GM that you plug-in behind your screen. I’ve seen other YouTube videos where it says you have to insert a new board with an antenna.
I don’t really want have to do this. There must be an easy way to get navigation to work on my 2015. It is the basic stingray model.
I am a woman and I work six days a week, and so I just don’t have a lot of time and just want the simplest solution. So I come to all of you!
I would just like the simplest way to get it to work. Any suggestions for me?
Sherry - I think what you are referring to is a GM map update from here.com who is GM's supplier. There are a couple of threads that state the latest map update screws up the nav system and GM (or here, com) cannot seem to fix it so stay away from any map update. Actually, I am not sure but GM (here.com) already dropped support for further updates for 2015 year?
Actually, your year, 2015, does not support Andriod Auto, so you would need a rather expensive,$1k, hardware upgrade to get that to work. 2016 and up where the years AA/Carpay got added. I added this to my 2015 and I am very happy with it. Mr. Anthony Brush @ MVI.com can set you up with that if you want to go that route.
If you decide to go that route, my recommendations is to get a wireless AA/Carplay adapter. It makes it MUCH less a PITA to use. You will not have to plug in your phone to use it. Only thing is that Android Auto drains your battery quick so I recommend a Qi charger to hold your phone and charge it while driving. I like the AAWireless adapter myself. But others recommend the Motorola wireless adapter. Your phone will never need a map update!
Pretty much with either of these, you get in your car and a few seconds later Waze, or Google maps come up. I like the AAWireless one myself as it has lots of software options which makes it superior for me than the others.

If your car isn't equipped with Nav, then you'll need to change the HMI and Radio control module to one that supports Nav and an antenna. If you want CarPlay and Android Auto to work, then you'll need an C7 Corvette HMI 2.5 Nav Module. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. There are a few options available. I purchased a used HMI for $75, RCM $50 and Antenna $20. I already had ACDELCO TDS Sofware and reprogrammed the HMI modules. There are a few vendors that reprogram HMI Modules for a reasonable cost $200 up which is less complicated. The Hardest part is removing and reinstalling the modules. They also sell HMI & RCM programmed to your vehicle, they cost $800-$1200 up.
All C7s came with Navigation, however, only 2015s that were equipped with the Navigation/PDR option (2015-2019) had onboard navigation. If you don't have the PDR you don't have onboard Navigation. If you don't have onboard navigation the car can use OnStar navigation if the OnStar module is software upgraded to meet the new cell phone frequency band requirements. On 2015 and later C7s this was done by an over-the-air update by OnStar.
If you have the OnBoard Navigation one of the issues preventing it from working is the loss of the GPS signal which could mean a broken wire or a bad antenna or antenna connection.
I don't see an easy way. I have a 2015 Z with PDR so I have NAV. You're not missing anything. I prefer to just run WAZE or Goggle maps on my phone (I have a really nice phone mount). I do have the NAV up on the screen all of the time when I'm driving. It helps me to know where I'm going when I'm out on the country roads. But I don't put destinations in there. I do that on the phone if I need to. It's nice because there's a little area on the NAV screen that shows me what's playing on my bluetooth streaming music (and when there's an ad running so I know when to mute and un-mute the radio). Works for me. I had Android Auto on my 2019 Grand Sport that needed the USB cable plugged in all the time and the stupid thing would always lock up on me (when I needed the Map app). Never happens with this setup. I was surprised that it worked so well for me.
Even when navigation is working, it is so outdated that it makes it useless.
Factory OEM updates are no help and in fact can damage your radio. Do not install a factory navigation update. Latest update is few years old anyway. They stopped making updates for our 2015s.
Best case option is getting WAMS or MVI HMI and radio module kits that updates your car to a 2016+ entertainment options. Then you can use your phone for navigation through the factory screen by adding factory Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Mine is 2014 so no Carplay from factory. This kind of setup must be the least expensive and easy way to get a Carplay in the car? This screen was $40+ from Amazon and I bought Proclip mount for this device which was another $40-$50.
Sherry, a less expensive option can be to purchase an iPad and use it with Google Maps. Larger display than the OEM Nav screen, constantly updated, and multifunction (Waze, weather, etc)
If you buy an iPad with cellular (see Amazon, even an older version) you will be all set. There's a nifty cup holder attachment that will hold the iPad in-place so you don't have to worry about it being a loose object. This provides up-to-date, easy to search navigation capability. It's worth a look rather than taking a chance on compromising your nav system with a GM update that have rendered some C7 nav system's inoperable.
It's an option.

I was using iPad in the car before but switched to CarPlay screen. In the summer, if you forget to remove or cover it to avoid heat, it gets overheated and non usable until cool down. One down side. Another I would like to mention is icons on iPad screen are rather small and touching action is kinda tough during the driving. This is only my experience.

Lassie, the OP has a 2015 C7, which does not have Car Play access. I think 2016 was the first model year to provide Car Play access. That's why I suggested the iPad option.
The iPad icons and display are larger than using a smart phone.
In the interest of safety, I am not suggesting touching icons while driving. Set up your nav route in Google Maps when the car is not in motion, then use the display to get from point A to B.
Sherry has an out-of-date nav database (10 years old.)
This is a viable option providing an less expensive "state of the art" accurate map route capability that is easy to use, easy to update, and removable from the car... No need to worry about summertime overheating.
Worth consideration.
I have the same issue; I have a 2015 C7 with an obsolete Nav system, and I just bought a Garmin RV895 system for my RV, which I use in my truck also. The device is almost the same size (8 inches) as the OEM display. I am considering making a mount (2" X 2" X 3/4" magnetic base), that doesn't compromise the interior of the Vette. the GPS was about $700.00 on Amazon.
There are other models (that don't have the RV or Truck databases) that she might like, and in smaller sizes. I take it off the magnetic dash mount and place it in a padded pouch when I am out of the vehicle for more than an hour to keep it from getting cooked in the Texas sun. It has the latest Garmin GPS software. It is the same height as my iphone which is next to it with Waze open most of the time. But the best feature is that I can read it without leaning over to squint at it!
