GM likes to do the quadruple flush to "fix" the shudder when it is only a bandaid when the actual fix is in the Valve Body signal circuits. If the shudder has been happening too long the Converter will have to be replaced with a FACTORY GM Reman Converter not an aftermarket converter.
The bandaid fix (flushing in new formula fluid) is working just fine at 60k miles in our 2017 A8, and for all of our A8 friends.
Before the bandaid was developed, lots of A8s were getting new torque converters and other "repairs" that didn't really fix the problem.
If the TC was sufficiently damaged by using the original fluid, a few of those had to be replaced and went bad again if still using the old formula fluid.

OTOH, we also owned two C6's with the A6 and it was just fine. Someone at GM (Tadge?) also said that the only advantage of the A8 was fuel economy, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times were not effected. In autocrossing or road track time, the A8 may have a slight advantage because it gives more gear options for a corner but that's really getting picky.
