I am thinking about installing a skip shift eliminator. Is there anything I should know? Do they all work the same? Seems simple enough but just wanted to be sure. Thanks
I think that they're all about the same. They're a simple plug & play.
I had one on my C6 because it was always forcing me into 4th gear from 1st when I was driving casually.
I haven't had that problem with my C7; so I haven't felt the need to install one. It could be that I've developed more of a lead foot having a Z06.
One warning when installing. The reverse lockout has the same plug so theoretically you could install it in the wrong spot. People that have made the mistake say they are unable to shift into reverse. That would be a pain if you installed it and drove to the store and pulled into a parking spot. It's a very easy install, just make sure you plug it into the correct harness. I also made sure to reinstall all of heat insulation to prevent problems down the road.
I hardly ever see this message. I just move the stick around and get around it when it does happen. I've had one of these for years and never installed it. OP if you cover postage it's yours.
I had one on my C7. worked great for a few years then I started getting a check engine light. The code was for the 1-4 shift. Turns the out the skip shift malfunctioned. I just removed it since for 99% of the time i accelerated past the point where the 1-4 shift would engage.
Simple plug and play. Works as advertised. Hardest part is finding the location of it.
I had it in my C5 for 15 years and now my C7 for the past six, with zero incidents. Had my indie mechanic install both...for a very low labour cost...like $30 I think.
Just want to add, don't need to spend a bunch, picked one up for around $7 some time back and it works perfect. Have seen them for much more than that.
On my C6 , i swapped out the 1-4 fuse with a blown smart glow fuse. Very cheap, easy to do and just as easy to reverse. Not sure if this method works on the C7.
Just drive it as if it were a sports car and you'll never know it has Skip-Shift. Trust me on this!
That only works if you don’t get stuck in urban traffic. When I want second gear I want second gear. I don’t want to be at cross purposes with the car.
On a 6 speed Trans Am the skip shift was very intrusive so I installed a resistor to eliminate it. I was going to do same on the C7 but the conditions to activate skip shift are so narrow it rarely gets in the way so after 8 years I haven't even bothered with it.

And exactly why all of my Z vettes have had the CAGS Defeat resistors installed.
