I drive mine only in manual mode with the paddles also. It is fun and in manual mode and it will never go into 4cyl mode. What year is your Z06 Vert? BEAUTIFUL COLOR GOOD MINDS THINK ALIKE! Congrats and enjoy the beast!
Thanks Dave, Mine is not a convertible. But it does have the 2 roofs. This is my first automatic. Owning Vettes for 30 years they were all manuals. But I’m really enjoying the manual in the auto. I’m so use to shifting a manual and the sound of it with my AWE exhaust is on my new Z06 that was on my 19 Z I sold. You just know when to shift it without looking at the tach. lol.
Every manufacturer has had problems with these displacement on demand systems and long term reliability. It's crappy technology that offers marginal fuel savings while sacrificing a huge amount of reliability.
Unreliable vehicles that need constant major repair and early replacement have an environmental cost also.
While the government didn't dictate the use of these systems persay, the government has made unrealistic demands of the manufacturers via the CAFE requirements. Manufacturers have to scrounge for every fraction of a MPG to try and get their overall average up.
The use of these technologies is 100% driven by manufacturers trying to meet governmental regulations.
There is always a trade off. You don't want me to run my factory smoke stack without filtering or afterburners or just dump the waste products into the lakes or in your back yard, we'll, that adds to the complexity. So from that standpoint, if you have 70s era cars, you have less possible failure points and more reliability. OTOH, as a kid living with Mom and Dad, I also have less things to worry about. So how many other manufacturers are having as many issues as GM?
As to reliability, I'm not sure it is all that bad. Considering that cars are considered worn out at 100k.
I agree with you except for the fact that US requirements aren't close to European standards so how do you define unrealistic when more stringent standards are able to be met?
Yes, they are mandated to meet requirements which is why they are using all the devices they can. However, if we had higher standards than European countries do and we demand more, I would agree it would be difficult especially if the tech wasn't up to it. That said, if other people are able to do it, maybe it's just a problem that GM is not equal to the task.
Hey guys! Not new to the forum or to Corvettes but I am new to the C7. I just went out and got me this nice Z06 convertible. It’s a completely different animal than the C6’s that I had.
I was on the fence about this generation, but the Z06 definitely changed my mind. I spent three years learning about the C6 generation, and now I feel like I’m starting all over again.
Looking forward to a wealth of information found here. I’m discovering there’s a lot I don’t know about this car. For instance, that stupid 4–8 cylinder thing. I heard bad things about it so I ordered a device that will prevent it from activating. It’s ridiculous they put that on these. Has anybody else done anything like that with success/issues?
Robert this was supposed to go to you but I replied to a white coupe Z06 which is a great color but nothing like Torch Red!I drive mine only in manual mode with the paddles also. It is fun in manual mode and it will never go into 4cyl mode. What year is your Z06 Vert? BEAUTIFUL COLOR GOOD MINDS THINK ALIKE! Congrats and enjoy the beast!

Love yours too! Mines a 2016, 2LT with a two-toned interior.
Funny thing, I went searching for the NPP, but it appears the previous owner has done away with it. Aaaaand the mufflers along with it.

Their are no mufflers just straight pipes?on the car because all Z06's have NPP

Yup. That *** is empty. Didn’t even notice at first because I was following wires…then looked up and bam. Nothing.
It’s cool though cause I like the sound and it’s smog legal in my state apparently. That was news to me.
Found the NPP wiring harnesses though. Tucked them away.
This one is way more fun than any C6’s I had. And I’ve had some cool ones.
Wow legal in bay area California as I thought that democratic blue state was even worse than my blue liberal state of Massachusetts. I could never get away with no mufflers here I have owned 13 Corvettes from 1993 to now and his Z06 is the best and last new one I will ever own. I had it built exactly the way I wanted something I never did with the other 12. C7 Z06's are AWESOME!

Yeah, I was blown away by that. Back in the 90s when I did hi-po stuff on my fox body mustangs that was unheard of. I even had mufflers with dumps on them and that was unacceptable as well. My smog place told me that nowadays as long as all the cats are present the rest doesn’t matter.
I thought that no mufflers would mean it would be as loud as an actual race car but no, it’s very livable. Although the initial start up can be heard the next town over.
If you do start using a DOD disabler you will need to pull it and get a few driving cycles in before you go for your smog inspection. Lots of threads here on that.
