Hey guys! Not new to the forum or to Corvettes but I am new to the C7. I just went out and got me this nice Z06 convertible. It’s a completely different animal than the C6’s that I had.
I was on the fence about this generation, but the Z06 definitely changed my mind. I spent three years learning about the C6 generation, and now I feel like I’m starting all over again.
Looking forward to a wealth of information found here. I’m discovering there’s a lot I don’t know about this car. For instance, that stupid 4–8 cylinder thing. I heard bad things about it so I ordered a device that will prevent it from activating. It’s ridiculous they put that on these. Has anybody else done anything like that with success/issues?

Nice catch! Plenty have installed a device or turned AFM off by other methods, myself included. Enjoy and welcome!

Congrats on your C7 - it really is an amazing car. I have the Range AFM Eliminator installed on my car and it works very well.

Congrats and welcome to the C7 section! I had a C6Z several years ago and while I miss that car life happens I needed to downsize the fleet. Now I can expand and also move to C7.

Nice Z06!

The AFM/DOD system is a known issue with the 6.2L. The Range device works well and the system can also be disabled with a tune.

However, even with AFM/DOD system disabled, the lifters are still prone to failure and the only way to get rid of them is going inside the engine and replacing them and the camshaft. Some folks experience DOD/AFM lifter failures early, some later, some never (or not yet).

Thanks all! I look forward to many happy trails in this section!.
I did see the Range device on Amazon but I opted for a more inexpensive one. This particular company said they strive for customer satisfaction so if I’m not happy, they’ll give me my money back and I can go get a different one. I didn’t see any reason for something like that to run $200 but we’ll see. I only paid about 50 bucks.
I’m also looking to get a matching red Grand Sport real soon here within the week, so I am going to be needing two of these. I figured $200 each is a bit much. $50, not so much.
If it turns out to be crap, I’ll just pony up for the Range device. No harm, no foul.
Thanks for your input guys.

Congrats!! Very nice. I thought about the range device but since I drive it in manual mode all the time I chose not to buy one.

I am officially jealous. I have always wanted a Z06, even when C5s were in production. Beautiful red Z06–that is a keeper!

I have a 2016 Z51 M7. So far it keeps all 8 going all the time. If four of those bad boys decide to take a break, I will let you now.

Welcome. Nice car. I used the $50 device for about a year, never had an issue. I finally did the VLOM mod and it works just fine. Much easier than the full delete.

Welcome to the "family." Beautiful Z06, hope you find a nice GS stablemate.
I have a 19 GS and highly recommend the Range device. Keep that engine safe from AFM-related problems.

Yeah… That was gonna be one of my next questions. I don’t have the window sticker and build sheet for this yet and the ad I bought it from claimed two different colors.
It said both torch and adrenaline red in the ad so I wasn’t sure. I believe the interior is adrenaline, and I thought the outside might be a match.
I tried googling the two reds for comparison, but the lighting in the photos didn’t give an accurate interpretation for me.
