P0734 Code Question
This past Sunday while driving my C7 Grandsport with manual transmission, while using rev matching, I experienced a high rev between gears and then a check engine light came on. Using my scanner I found a P0734 code which could not be cleared. Took it to my local dealer who said it is a transmission gear sensor which needs to be replaced and quoted me $4100 to do the work saying to get to the sensor the transmission had to be taken out of the car. Have any of you had this problem and is this a fair price for the work? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've read that this can also happen when spirited driving (if the wheels slip and traction control engages at the same time) - When it happens, it's been chalked up to a incorrect sensor reading. It usually will recalibrate and the engine light will turn back off. Almost like a false reading. Before you engage in these repairs. Give the car a good 20-40mile drive and if I were a betting man, the sensor will provide the correct readings and your engine light will turn off, the code will be gone.
The flip to this is that it's actually out of sync.. but unlikely.

Sure hope the scenario in post #2 is what happens. $4100 is a lot of cash to repair a possible bad sensor.

This happened while I was 50 miles from home. I was driving on a country road and pulling away from a stop sign so I was going very slow. I stopped the car a few minutes later and then restarted. The shift indicator on the dash and heads up display returned but the check engine light remained on. Drove it home immediately and parked it for a couple days. Engine light remained on so I took it into the dealer. One dealer quoted $4100 and the second dealer quoted $2700 for doing the exact same thing. Was told by them that if the work wasn't done it would eventually go into limp mode.
