Default Help Thermostat o ring question

My 2019 Z51 thermostat is stuck open.
Got a new GM thermostat.
Just removed original thermostat and found that the o ring is glued on the flat surface.
The new stat has an o ring.
Am I supposed to use the original sealing ring or the new stat o ring?
The new stat will not sit flat because there’s no groove for the o ring to sit in.

Default Update

I used the new thermostat and the o ring that came with it.
I was able to get the housing to sit flush with the mounting boss without
applying too much torque on the T-30 Torx bolts.
I used a 3/8” drive T-30 Torx socket with a 3/8”to 1/4” drive adapter.
Worked well to help prevent over torque.
Hoping it doesn’t leak.

Good luck - just keep a close eye on the area for a while for any potential leaks.

Clean off the engine's flat surface and use the new O ring.

Put some antifreeze on the new O ring.

John,

There have been several different part numbers for the thermostat, as a newer version supersedes an older one. I don't know if any change pertained to the o-ring or a mounting groove. I believe the current numbers are GM #12674634 and ACDelco #15-11113.

Did you have one of those?

Got the 15-1113 from Rock Auto.
The thermostat failed on my 2016 Z51 at 19,400 miles.
Just picked up this 2019 with 23,700 miles.
