Default Lug Nuts C7 vs C6?

Both our C6 and now our C7 came with the stock GM lugs nuts, which have that stainless metal covering on the outside.
I happen to think they look ok with my stock silver-painted wheels, but the covering gets distorted as you wrench them on and off, and eventually you want to replace them. Since the threads and the other factors look identical, I've just been tossing them all in the same box. Some (but not all) of the C6 lugs have a small mark on the outside that may identify the maker, but not sure.
A while back someone posted that the C7 studs are slightly longer than the C6, and a C6 nut on a C7 stud may bottom on the inside before actually being tight.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Does anyone know an easy way to tell if the C7 studs are too long?
Thanks!

If it's bottoming there is likely a shiny witness mark inside the lug nut that can be seen with a small flashlight. The other thing you could do is measure with a micrometer the distance from the seat to to the top of the stud and then do the same measurement with the lug nut regarding depth.

I've always heard the C6 lug nuts are longer than the C7 lug nuts Never checked since I have open end Gorilla extended lugs.

For what it is worth, these lug nuts are available for Corvettes made between 1984 and 2019.

Thanks, but I've got 60 virtually new GM ones sitting a box. Not as nice, but I can't beat the price.

I have an extra 40 lightly used that came with extra wheels I bought for C7 Stingrays. I have extras that I carry with me in my Z51 and Tundra. One lug nut came off of a C4 decades ago and another was loose after a state inspection. Always carry extras since then.

use a caliper, the end with the metal rod that extends, and measure the depth of the 2 nuts.

After using an impact wrench many times when removing those lug nuts I have had the stainless caps fall off those lug nuts. They are basically an open lug nut on the inside (although an odd size that no socket fits properly. The stainless cap doesn't have much holding it on the base lug nut, so if the nut is too short, the stud would push the cap off when snugging the nuts to 100 ft-lbs.

I can't speak for the length of the lug nuts between C6 and C7. But I really dislike the OEM lug nuts with the funky cover. So I replaced my OEM lug nuts with solid identical replacements from Rock Auto. They are much better.
