Default misplaced key

I know I am old and forgetful but this has me baffled

Open the garage and back out the Corvette. Wash it and put it back in the garage. take the keys into my house and lock the deadbolt with a house key on the fob. Put the key fob on the shelf and grab my truck keys and take the dog to the dog park.
Return and I cannot find the Corvette key fob. I know I tend to forget and have a special place to keep keys but in a hurry and didn't return them there. (should have known better to take an extra minute to put it where it belongs) No one else in the house but the cat.

All I know is they have to be in the house somewhere. just to check I tried starting the Vette but said no key fob found - I assume that verifies key is not in the garage

Do have the second fob and it was in it's special place. Any suggestions to finding a fob?

It will turn up the minute you program a replacement.

BTW: it can be nearby the car, in your garage, or even inside the back of the car and the car will not detect it.

I bought a set of Samsung's Smart Tags for my keys and wallets and they work well on my Sammy phone.

My missing keys are normally in the last pair of pants or shorts I wore, I always go to the laundry basket to check, hoping I will find them before the wife tosses whole pile in the washing machine.

Just give it some time - I would bet the key will show up since you were the only one there.

Otherwise, blame it on either the dog or the cat.

It will show. Be careful in removing anything from the house for a while. That includes the trash, walking in and out with clothes, etc. Look on the floor obviously look behind the washing machine maybe just keep on looking. Hopefully you have a second one.

My wife always blames our cat.

Me: Someone's been in my wallet again!
Wife: That damned cat!!!

I one time laid my fob on a ladder hanging on the garage wall. Forgot it. Couldn't find it. Car wouldn't start so I got the 2nd FOB. Then a couple of days later, I saw the first fob laying on the ext. ladder.... DUH!!!

I’ve done this too. Put them on a ladder step.

Just to let you know, my fob was in the washing machine for about 5 minutes before I realized what happened. I retrived the fob and it worked! I've had no troubles and it's been several years.

I too had a very similar problem last year. I place my keys on the kitchen upper deck counter and was unable to find them later. That evening while washing dishes, I found them when I turned-on the garbage disposal.

Was you putting your car car items back or moving anything else with the keys in your hands? If so check there.

Default Easy prevention for future loss

My solution: use a colored lanyard so you don't misplace that black colored key fob.
