I’m sure that this has been covered in the Forum in the past but my searches haven’t answered my questions regarding the “Black Screen of Death”. Yes, I’m the latest victim of the fluttering, scrolling and blank screen syndrome (2014 Stingray, only 16K miles!). Comes and goes in an unpredictable manner but we all know mechanical and especially electronic devices don’t fix themselves so I face the inevitable…..tear into the dash and remove the unit. I’ve seen a lot of partial tear downs that depend upon a lot of luck when it comes to poking and prodding the wire connections. Are they successful or am I just putting off the inevitable? Should I need to remove the unit, are there any good refurbishing options? Seems that the units for sale are from dismantlers and let’s face it, they could be minutes, hours, days or weeks from being in the same shape as mine is currently. I’d like to know that the unit I’m installing has been updated and tested and hopefully last without any misadventures down the road. Have any of my fellow forum followers used a refurbished/repair service for this problem? Were you satisfied?
Sorry I don’t have an answer for you, but I think you have a great question. Down through the years, there have been many shops that were well known for repairing or rebuilding starters, alternators, speedometers and other components for classic or older cars. Sure would be nice if there were people who did quality repairs, refurbishing and updates on some of the components on these Corvettes as well as other cars. I’m sure there would be no lack of business for them. Hopefully someone will chime in with some info. All of these cars will be destine for the junk yard when they get older if there is no way to repair or refurbish the electronic systems in them. Maybe that’s what GM really wanted anyway. 🙁
