Maybe. This might be true (I don't believe it) for a Silverado but like I said, after three years I have never seen V4 in my dash display. And yes, I have my dash selected where it shows mileage with the "V8" always appearing.
Can you ask for an exchange and offer to pay for the shipping back and forth?
I'm shipping it out tomorrow on my dime, I just thought they'd ship it back, either way, getting this straightened out for piece of mind.
So in my info center, my Range shows it defaulting into V4 once in a while driving in Sport or Touring. I don't feel the difference, so I posed the question to Range Techs. They sent me this reply below.
The vehicle will still display the lower cylinder mode even if its not going into it. We cannot modify the info center showing that.
The easiest way to tell would be to take the vehicle for a drive and get to a cruising speed of about 50 kph, from there give a sudden increase to get up to 60-65 kph. If there is a hard shift that means its still going into the lower cylinder mode. If it is a smooth transition it is in all 8.
My question is, does anyone else's info on the dash show V4 while the Range is in ? I'm kind of not buying the reply.
