So in my info center, my Range shows it defaulting into V4 once in a while driving in Sport or Touring. I don't feel the difference, so I posed the question to Range Techs. They sent me this reply below.
The vehicle will still display the lower cylinder mode even if its not going into it. We cannot modify the info center showing that.
The easiest way to tell would be to take the vehicle for a drive and get to a cruising speed of about 50 kph, from there give a sudden increase to get up to 60-65 kph. If there is a hard shift that means its still going into the lower cylinder mode. If it is a smooth transition it is in all 8.
My question is, does anyone else's info on the dash show V4 while the Range is in ? I'm kind of not buying the reply.
My 2017 Stingray that I had for 5 1/2 years was equipped with a manual transmission, so I never had the issue with the engine going into V4 mode. It would only do it on the highway in the "ECO" setting, but I always drove it in "SPORT" to avoid the engine changing modes. A Corvette isn't supposed to be a Prius. Maybe the GM engineers knew what they were doing - and maybe they didn't; but running four cylinders "dry" to save 1 to 1.5 miles per gallon on a long trip doesn't seem worth it to me.
My wife had a C7 automatic and we bought a Range AFM device soon after purchase. It NEVER ONCE showed "V4" on the display panel. She had her car for 2 1/2 years and used the Range AFM plug-in the entire time she had the car. After we sold it (for five grand more than she paid for it), we gave that Range AFM device to somebody else in our Corvette club who had a C7 with the auto trans.
Maybe the valvetrain issue has not been a huge problem with Corvettes - possibly because people put fewer miles on them, but it certainly has been an issue for some Silverado trucks.
Might check to see if the device is fully seated in the OBD port. Perhaps you’ve bumped it or it’s loosened up for some reason. Thus not really active.
I checked mine just as a random thought one day. Found it wasn't fully seated, figured all the getting in and out, my knee probably dislodged it somewhat. I check it regularly now for piece of mind. 2019 GS 45,000 trouble free miles so far. Never shows V4 btw
Agree. No V4 with the Range installed. I've coasted downhill, etc. I haven't seen a V4 symbol with the Range installed. That being said, I don't spend a lot of time with that particular page of data displayed.

No it should not do that, your device likely needs a firmware change.
My original Range device had this issue and after contacting them directly, they sent me a new one.

Thanks, that was the first thing I did. Was thinking that would solve the issue, I'll be in it this week to give it a try again. I don't have faith at all in this, it may be in need of repair...as always, this forum is great for help,

So below is the response from Range techy, I've got the unit packaged to go back to be checked. I just feel comfortable having it checked based on responses here that nobody else shows it going into V4 mode.
Thank you for your response. That is not accurate. The device doesn't stop the V4 mode from appearing on the dash. Personally, I have a Silverado that shows it on the dash as well even when the device is connected to the OBDII port.

Maybe. This might be true (I don't believe it) for a Silverado but like I said, after three years I have never seen V4 in my dash display. And yes, I have my dash selected where it shows mileage with the "V8" always appearing.
Can you ask for an exchange and offer to pay for the shipping back and forth?
