what should a trans fluid change cost?
is it a dealer service or can a good mechanic do it?
I have 24,000 and no symptoms. Thanks
I paid $599 for a triple flush at a Chevy dealership a year and a half ago. They told me it did not really need to be done until the car reached 50,000 miles. I had 24,000 miles on the 2018 Stingray.

Many many discussions on this topic on here. If you're asking about an 8 spd auto. A lot of mechanically inclined guys do it themselves. Price depends on if you want a triple flush to change to the improved fluid or just a fluid / filter change. Once the proper fluid is in you can go 50 to 100k for the next change although personally I would change it more often.

I was made to learn math with the mantra "No working, NO credit.". Please show the working on the $599 "deal".
I just checked. Fluid was $10 per quart and needing 24 quarts, the fluid alone costs $240. Someone said filter and gasket was $110. So far, we are talking about $350 in parts. According to TSB, you would need 24 quarts of fluid and 2.8 (warranty time) hours. So, if we call it 3 hours for private pay, your labor, excluding shop charges come to $250. That means you paid about $80 per hour of labor. I haven't paid that little for more than a couple of decades. Currently, in the Milwaukee area, it is about $180 an hour. Couldn't have been less than $150 an hour 2 years ago.
Only way I can see it is he dropped the pan, changed the filter and refilled telling you he dropped the pan 3 times like specified. You pay him some money, went away happy and thought you got the real deal as specified in the TSB.
A8 or M7? I have the manual and change it myself. Not a difficult job, but helps a lot if you have a way to get the car at least a couple of feet off the ground so that you can get under it. Interesting to note, the manual trans uses auto trans fluid.

You need to differentiate between a simple drain/filter/refill, and the triple flush.
The drain/filter/refill should be done every 50k miles if you drive it hard like most of us. No big deal.
The triple flush is done to get (almost) all the original fluid out of your trans, it would absorb moisture from the air and lead to shudder problems and eventual damage. Your car appears to be a 2017, everything built before early 2019 got the old (bad) fluid.
You can have a dealer check to see if it ever got the triple flush, there is a bulletin number to reference if they're not sure.
The triple flush is pretty expensive (~$1k) because of the large amount of time and expensive new fluid used.
But if it hasn't been done and you like the car, I'd bite the bullet and get it done now.
Best of luck to you.

Did you notice easier shifts after you changed the transmission fluid/oil? I have 10,000 on my car, but I’m thinking about doing it. I think I would have to buy a pump first before I went to try to change it. It’s been a while since I’ve done this kind of work.

Did it on my 2014.
Bought a cheap pump from WallyMart for $10.
HF has a cheap one also.
Not too difficult.

If you don't have issues like this where you need to do a triple flush and your car is well maintained, I think any change of feeling is in the head.

Used Redline D4. Shifting is much smoother particularly in cold weather. MGW shifter made it even better. Takes about 45 minutes and about 4 qts.

I don't have the paperwork in front of me for a detailed breakdown but the triple flush (Fremont Chevrolet) in SF Bay Area came out to $1164.

Please call 833-397-0541 and talk to the service dept. at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Buick in Richmond and they can tell you what they do during a triple flush and what the price is.
For me, it does not matter because I traded the A8 Stingray in March for an M7 Stingray Z51.

There is no "they" in this. GM has laid down the process. You are either following the TSB procedure or you are making something else up and trying to pass it off as the process.

Fair enough. I just did. $949 and by some miracle, he explained the TSB procedure without me telling him the number.
