Default C7 hitch

I am trying to find a hitch for my car so I can make a small aluminum rack for some luggage. I have been all over the web and yet to find one I can get soon.

I guess it's worth saying, Corvettes are not designed or intended to tow anything

I saw this at the Corvette caravan last year. I had mixed feelings, on one hand, thinking what was said above about a Corvette towing something. On the other hand, trying to pack enough into a Corvette for two people traveling for 10 days.

Don't use a C8, use a C7. We've been taking long road trips of 2-3 weeks in our various C5/C6/C7 Corvettes over the last 25 years, and it works well. Some trips up to 3 months, but that obviously requires doing laundry along the way.
The C8 looses some space by the numbers, and the C8 space is more difficult to use efficiently.
With any 'vette, pack carefully at home and then take pictures of the trunk(s) so you can get the stuff back in later.
Some "Expectation Management" is required- you can't take everything you want, but you can take everything you need.
Enjoy the trip!

There are some youtube videos showing custom installs, which I think is the only option if you need something right away, but you'll need some basic fabrication skills. I did mine similar to the Cody's Custom Creations video, but I stiffened up the cross member considerably using some 1/4" steel plates and spacers inside. Its so thin and brittle I think it would crack the way he did it. I don't have a welder, so I bought a hitch similar to the one he made but class II, and trimmed it to fit behind the license plate, plus mine has the holes for safety chains. I used a spring loaded license plate mount which makes it easy to r&r.
I've towed my trailers all over the place with over 1,000 lbs loaded (balanced to keep the tongue weight under 200 lbs.), and so far after three years and 40k miles (60k total), there are no cracks or other issues. My trans temp goes up about 20-30 degrees after awhile, but that's about it. Good Luck!

Technically incorrect. All cars are designed and have a 1000 lbs tow rating, in the US legally you can say that its not recommended for towing, but if you look at European specs they will put 1000 lbs or 2000 lbs on all cars that in the US are labelled as "not recommended for towing".

The GTO was a classic example of this, in the US it was labelled no towing, but in Australia it had a 2000 or maybe even a 3000 lb tow rating. To get a 1000 lbs tow rating is frankly not hard, the tongue weight is 100 lbs. Can you put 100 lbs in the cargo area? If so, you can tow. Pulling 1000 lbs is nothing.

I think you meant to say... "Don't use a C8, use a C7 Coupe". I have a C7 Convertible, and not really that more space than a C8, even with making use of the "top space" in the trunk.

^^^^^

The 'vert is more fun in some situations, but the coupe trunk holds a lot more.
There's really no bad decision either way.

How does it work with license plate? I have not ordered because was coming in after vacation. I am going to ship stuff to different locations we are hitting. We are seeing this weekend how much we can put in with wheelchair.Does plate flip down and cover it when rack is off.Hard to tell in pictures.
