Default Brake Pad replacement

Hi all, I need to replace the brake pads on my Z51 equipped Stingray. I would like reduced dust from stock but don't want to give up much performance. There's so many choices that it is a bit confusing. Just want to see what others experience has been with the various brands. Hopefully, there's something out there with similar perform to stock but less dust. Let me know what works. Thanks in advance for your help!!

For me Akebono has been the best balance between dust and performance. I put them on everything now. Extremely happy with them. Gm ceramic don't dust but fade horrible.

I'm running AutoZone Duralast Gold on my Z51 and they're great. Way less dust and the brakes feel great. Plus, they're much more affordable than other options.

I changed to PowerStop Z26 on our Z51, and no more dust. I've seen no difference from stock in braking performance, but I don't race or track the car.

Very interesting to learn about the Akebono brand. Thanks for pointing them out.

I just found that NAPA offers the Akebono line. A link here...

Default Z26 +1

Another vote for the Powerstop Z26 pads. Went from insane dust (stock pads) to no dust at all. Was a very easy swap with exception to front OEM pads which had some adhesive on them which required to some “convincing” with a putty knife to break free. For street driving, the stopping Performance feels just the same with only minor differences. The OEM pads felt a little better with cold performance, once the PowerStops have warmed I could not
OEM pad adhesive
OEM pad adhesive

tell the difference under normal driving. Probably the best upgrade (technically a downgrade lol) I’ve done to my c7.

This wheel (and the other three, as well ) has about 500 miles on it since it was last washed. The lack of dust is because of the PowerStop Z26 pads.

How much does a "brake job" run at a Midas or Meineke type shop if you bring them the pads. Is that even an option?

I have always had good luck (low dust & performance) with Hawk ceramic pads on my 04, 08, 13, and 19.

The original stock pads on our 2017 Z51 worked great but dusted like mad.
A new set of GM Z51 pads installed in 2019 seem to dust a lot less.

I'm not sure how much those places would charge but my Chevy dealer charged me $190 2 years ago when I gave them the Powerstop's to replace.

I assume the rotors were in good enough shape to keep? That would be a big expense on a Z51 car for sure........

So actually they tried telling me that they were cracked and rusted and wanted to replace them for somewhere between $3-$4,000. I politely told them to pound sand and just had them change the brake pads. I've taken it back several times since for inspections and they haven't mentioned the rotors since.

I have Brembo pads for the street, and they don't dust too much. I run EBC for the track, and those dust much more.

That's insane. I just bought Z51 rotors and Z26 pads for about $7-800 and did it myself. That's an insane price.
