Excuse me if this has been discussed as I'm from the C2 forum. I'm having trouble fueling my 19 GS Coupe at my favorite Sunoco station, pump keeps kicking off. Any tricks?
I know I know, but I used to do this in my old mustang to get it to fill up without stopping many times....
.... and doing the same now in the vette as I left Costco once with it jumping half way off..... it works
and yes, it depends on the pumps. Some will work perfectly some don't, but when you don't know, this procedure works all the time
Air in the system is a possibility with the C7. I push the nozzle in up to the spring on the nozzle, which is about 1/2 to 5/8 into the receiver and that is usually the comfort zone for my car. Hope this helps.
I am in Florida. I have been always using Sam's fuel station. I had same issue with my Z51 for years. I tried tilt, invert but it was not a complete solution to it. Recently they replaced entire pumping station and that issue was gone. I assume pumping issue might be on pump side?

I imagine there is a lot of variability in operating parameters between station pumps, no different than its employees and owners.

It happens with some stations and some nozzles. Turn the nozzle and see if it helps. Try other stations. Btw, I have one station that had the issue; they changed nozzles and no more problem.
At my Costco, there are 2 pumps that were doing that. None of the others do that and it also does it for my other vehicles. When the nozzles changed, the problem went away.
This is a common problem with C7 coupes. It happened with both of ours when we had them. The solution is to insert the nozzle partway into the filler neck (just the tip - LOL!) and use "half speed" to fill the tank.
Listen very carefully to the sound of the gasoline going into the tank and you'll know when it is almost full because the pitch will change. In most cases, the pump WILL shut off at that time. That way, you avoid overfilling and/or spillage. If you DO something wrong and end up with a bit of gasoline on your paint, clean it off quickly. It will act like a solvent and eat through your wax.
More often than not, the "pump shutting off" situation is caused by the equipment at the gas station - but the fuel filler neck design of the C7 doesn't help very much.
I have to completely hold it upside down with full flow at the pumps I go to. I have attempted to try the slight angles, partially inserted, slower flow but just clicks off.
Try a pump that puts you on a slight downside from the pump, My 19 chevy van will not take gas if the van is completely level. On a slight down hill side it will no problem. It annoyed me to no end until i started doing that
As others have said, rotate the handle so that it is 180 degrees from the normal position i.e. upside down. Learned about it here on the C7 forum years ago. It works and it worked for my RV also. Some guy on here explained why it works. Maybe related to a pitot tube issue.
