I acquired a 2019 Grand Sport last month. I purchased the License plate attachment for the font that screws into the front tow hook. I also bought a tow hook. (Side note: not all of the less expensive tow hooks are no more than for show. Not rated for strength for towing ? ) When I tried to install the License plate attachment the threads wouldn't engage? The tow hook will not also. I bought the tap, 20mmX2.5. I can't get it to engage. Has anyone else had this problem? I have been very gentle trying to rethread. It just won't start. I really don't want to take the front grill off. Both the License plate holder and tow hook screw into the rear tow reviver.
When I first tried to thread my new ZL1 tow hook into my new 2015 Z06 I had quite a bit of trouble getting it to thread in correctly. The male end has to be aligned perfectly with the female receiver for the threads to catch. The tow hook receiver is mounted at a slight angle toward the center of the car so pay attention to the vertical and horizontal angles. Since your car is several years old the threads may have some dirt in them as well. It took me several hours to get mine started.
With the GS, be very careful threading any attachment into the receiver. The receiver on my car moves around some and once the bolt end has been screwed into the receiver a few times, the threads get a little loose. The combination of the two tolerances lets the bolt move around quite a bit where it comes through the grille. If it moves too much it will break the thin horizontal plastic grille piece just above bolt. On my car the tow hook actually touches that parr and when I used the tow hook to pull the car onto a trailer the piece moved around enough to crack the grille.
The narrow-body car grilles have a removable section, so the bolt doesn't damage the grille.
