I plug in my Range device before I start her up. At the end of the day after shutting off the engine for the last time I unplug it and lay it by my shifter. This reminds me to plug it in before I take her out. Does anyone leave their Range device plugged in all the time. I always put her on the trickle charger after every drive.
I leave the Range device in our 2016 Z51 plugged in all the time without any issues. It was purchased from Range in September, 2019 & it is version V8.6R1.
Mine has been plugged in continuously for almost 3 years now. No issues whatsoever. I do use a battery maintainer during all periods of inactivity, just for peace of mind.

Why? I don't think the latest firmware requires an unplug. Even previous versions don't require chargers or unplugs unless you are leaving it for weeks at a time.
Plugged in all the time.
Just remove it and drive a bit before its time for a State Emissions and Inspection.
We have those once a year in PA... some owners previously reported an issue when they unplugged it on the way to the inspection.
Driving a bit without it seemed to resolve the problem.
I follow that procedure and have not had a problem.
And I use a CTEK battery tender all the time.
A better alternative, IMO, is to use a Diablo programmer to stop it from switching into AFM mode. You can change stuff to get better suited to your tastes in the program. Maybe a little more aggressive timing/fuel curve to make it more lively? Sure, you can buy a throttle controller but you will loose some granular control of the throttle. I also got the A8 to shift better. I also don't kick the thing out of the car which can damage the OBD2 port like I have done twice already.
Best system would be the above PLUS replacement of the lifters and cam, to get rid of the weak spot altogether.

If you drive the car everyday, just leave it plugged in the port. If not, take it out.
The Range AFM Disabler has been top of mind for me lately.
I have been contemplating getting it to prevent lifter issues for a couple a weeks now but waited to talk to some Corvette owners at a local Corvette Club I just joined. I talked to 3 C7 owners about this and each said it is not necessary and they don't worry about it. Then as fate would have it, the check engine light comes on during my drive home from the Corvette Club meet up!
So I go to Autozone for an immediate OBD scan and it comes out P12F0 - Cylinder Deactivation Exhaust Flow Valve Stuck Open Bank 1.
I guess I will find out next week when the dealer runs its diagnostics but I can't help but wonder if I had the the Range, would this have been prevented???
I just bought this car (2017 Grand Sport) as a Certified Pre-Owned from a Chevrolet dealer a month ago and now I am anxiously awaiting to hear how much this repair is going to cost. $300? $3,000?
@JLSuperfly If you don't use your Range, I would be happy to buy it from you!
Sorry to hear what happened. Please let us know how this turns out.
Good luck, we're rooting for you.
Given the age of the C7, I'm surprised (and glad) you were able to buy it as a CPO.
Smart move.
