I did the triple flush on my new to me 17 GS right after I bought it. I had the Chevy dealer that I bought it from check their records and it was never done. I also spoke to the original owner and he confirmed. I bought the tranny fluid from Amazon and brought it to the Chevy dealer. Saved a bunch on that since they upcharge the fluid. Glad I had it done. Won't have that shudder or torque tube issue hopefully. As for the range device, it plugs into the OBD 2 port near the hood release. As far as I know, that is the only way to keep an auto in 8 cylinder mode all the time. Perhaps there is a fuse to pull that also does that. Not sure. Hope that helps.
Call your local dealer service department and ask for a VIS report. If the triple flush is NOT listed on the VIS, then I would strongly advise you to get it done. I am getting my 2016 Triple Flush done in a couple weeks with 43k miles.
If it stays in 8 cyl. mode without the range it may well have had a tune for it. If in doubt-triple flush. I did it my self and found 3 flushes I only used 18 qts. so did a fourth to use the 24 qts. I was getting that slight shudder and now it's gone.
The Range Device or a tune will take care of the AFM issue to some degree by keeping it in V8 mode. The Triple Flush is a completely different deal. If you have a C7 with the A8 and the transmission was built before 2/1/2019, then the car needs to have the Triple Flush to get rid of the old fluid to avoid likely transmission damage. As noted above, have a VIS report pulled by the dealer and get it figured out.
In this thread a tune was mentioned and it might be my answer why my engine stays in V8 all the time .
Also the the v4/v8 icon is never on.
My OBD is empty, should l check to see if a fuse was pulled?
l have been going crazy trying to figure this out.
thanks

You have to switch to it in one of the gauge options.

There is NO fuse that controls the AFM. Only two ways that I know of to control AFM - Range or a tune.
So if my OBD IS empty and my dash does not show v4/v8 then l will assume my vette had a tune. I will the next time l go to my dealer
l will ask for a VIS report
thanks
ps l will wind up selling my range which is connected to a window valet
Just a quick question as I am getting my flush done next week, will the filter also be changed as part of this or will I have to request that be done as well?

No. You have to get to the right menu. Mine will show V8 consistently since it was tuned. Before, it could show V4 and switch to V8.
I would dump the Range unit and get it programmed professionally.

What does the quote say? I would read it carefully and make sure it says what you see from the TSB.

A tune does not get rid of the V4/V8 indication. Change to Econ or a different mode.
How is your range device connected to a window valet? That makes no sense.

I don't remember whether a new filter was part of the deal. I would ask to make sure. It doesn't make much sense to me to put a contaminated filter on a transmission with brand new fluid in it. It would be like taking a shower and putting on skid marked underwear.

I don't think it was mentioned in the TSB. Regardless, it should be on the DETAILED QUOTE if you demand it. They are pretty good ad "dumb it down" for the customers. Sometimes, they will highlight the total amount in case you can't understand it.
