That might also go for when in the D position after you have used the paddles because it then goes into M (manual) and as above, while in the M mode and not Eco, it will not go 4 cylinder.
You'd be hard pressed to notice it. Even on my Manual the only way I can feel it switching to V4 mode is with my hand on the shifter. The instant you ask for any power, it shuts off. I'm sure it's even less noticable in the Auto.
thanks for the info guys, sorry for not being clearer also. Im talking about an automatic. my chief concern is that I love the deep rich throaty sound that mine has at idle now ('05 auto) and I want to be able to get that sound with the stingray and am thinking that if it's on 4 cylinders at idleing speeds i will not be able to get the sound i currently have.
V4 mode does not come on at idle or very low speeds. I've never seen mine switch to V4 at all in town. I have the 7 speed, maybe someone with the Auto has noticed it switch to V4 mode at slow speed, but I know it never does at idle.

Put it in track mode and make sure you have the NPP... You will get the best of both (V8 + bypass always on)

Not on my A6. Feels like a small shudder or lurch when it activates or
de-activates. I wish it was less perceptible.

If you are still feeling the change from 4 to 8 or 8 to 4 you might want to get it checked. I have a non-z-51 auto and it is impossible for me to tell the switch except for seeing the v4/v8 light change
I started out today accidentally in "ECO"and felt it go down the 4 cyclinders, I quickly changed it to "SPORT" and I felt it go back to all 8. Really noticeable with the manual.
I have a MT7 and I can feel the thing go into 4cylinder mode if I was in Eco mode. but that was only the one time because I always drive around in S mode
does different modes change the tune in anyway??? I know the sport/track modes open the valves in the exhaust if you have that option but does it affect the tune in anyway?? something I didn't think about, but might look into it.

I have a manual Z51. I've driven it about 5,000 miles and never seen it in in V4, except on the freeway in Eco mode. Sometimes you can feel the switch to V4, but not all the time.
If you have loud mufflers you might not like the sound cruising on the highway in ECO mode. It will sound like a 6 cylinder with a loud muffler but if you have the NPP your exhaust won't be open at cruise and you probably won't even notice the change in sound. With loud mufflers you will want to keep it disabled cause you will hate the sound. Has anyone run in ECO mode with loud exhaust?
