I was paid more than enough for each PDI that I did. There was an extensive list, which I happily went over on each and every car that I PDI'd. Which included all fluids.
If any Corvette left with low fluid, and its actually checkable, then someone didn't do their job...multiple times at multiple locations. And I wouldn't doubt it. PDIs are seen as gravy work, and done asap with as little effort as possible, I'm sure. Also considered by some to be a waste of time and money, when they could be making $ on a better job with more bookable hours. So they whiz thru it, giving it the penci check only.
I agree with you. Once I purchased a Jaguar XK-E. The "checklist" was in the glove compartment. Before I got out of the parking lot, I found that that stereo was "stuck"--it wouldn't change channels & the differential whined really loud. I had to wait for a new stereo and a new differential. The dealer should of told me to buy two Jaguars; one for driving and one for in the shop.
I have number 1040 and it pops and bumps significantly while moving around parking lots at slow speeds and turning sharply. I just assumed this was the new normal - but am I hearing that this should not be happening? I will be checking the fluid this afternoon as I have less than 600 miles on the car...
I don't know if anyone else has seen this but talking to the local dealer there is a possible recall on at least the Z51 cars due to a possible lack of correct fluid level in the diff's.
Could be up to a quart low.
I don't know if this effects all of them or just the Z51 cars but if you have one, check your diff fluid.
Each one we have worked on we have had to add fluid. Definitely an issue.

That's normal. It's front tire chatter, not the diff. There are a bunch of threads on it in the General section. It's talked about in the manual too.
I picked up my Z51 on 12/19/13 number 7035. I asked the dealer if they checked the differential fluid level and he said oh yes we check everything thoroughly. Well it must have had them worried because when they were cleaning it up they put it back on the rack, I went back and talked to the tech he said it was full and didn't have to add any. I am not sure if they have released a vin break point on this issue? I am glad they checked for piece of mind because I was 457 miles from my house.
This issue reminds me of the CTS-V. Most of them were under filled from the factory. The diff in my CTS-V wagon made the worst whining sound at 8800miles and had to be replaced.
Is GM sourcing their diffs from a dollar store or something?

This is quite interesting on differentials. Not trying to hijack the thread, but GM has been having rear end problems for over 50 years per comments of others in previous threads. My 06 C6 is on its third (3rd) differential. It seems that GM is a "slow learner" about differentials since this has been going on for over 50 years per others! Others have commented that this problem was also on other GM car models.
My vin is 3872 and I was told my car was affected and brought to dealer for "checking". Did the reflash at the same time. I was told cars built prior to 11/17 ( guessing from memory) need to check
Hope that helps! Thanks everyone for sharing, it has helped me immensely as a new first-Corvette owner

Still, I would feel better if it was checked. I need a shop manual so I can do this stuff myself.

Reason: adding info...just got done. They added 1 quart to the differential and flash upgrade to the software. all good
my car was low on fluid, a few times when i pulled in the garage, i noticed a burning smell but i thought it was normal, i hope my diff is ok. my vin is 1077 ,
Back in the day I use to be a Factory Trained Corvette Tech, And one of my jobs was to PDI all of the new just delivered Corvettes hot off the truck. And if the car was Ordered or sold it didn't leave the dealership until all fluid levels were checked and topped off even the windshield washer fluid.
I can't believe for a minute any Corvette dealership would let a brand new Corvette hit the street without checking everything out before delivery.
Unfortunately, it happens quite a bit. There were a significant number of F55 equipped C5s that left the dealer with the "shock stuffers" still intact. Every time there was a complaint about a harsh ride in an F55 equipped car, they were told to check for the stuffers and then leaking fluid. In the majority of cases, the stuffers were left in place by the dealership.
Ultimately, it is a minor hiccup in the roll out and it seems that GM has notified everyone and is taking care of it.
There is a recall! My dealer verified this and when he checked mine {#1040} it was about half a quart low. He also said to go out and do a bunch of figure 8s - man I hated to do that but I made the sacrifice and did it anyway. This car really turns fast... Anyway I would get the dealer to check it out, under warranty of course, to document the findings.
