Default C7 Torque Converter Stall Question?

In drive with your foot on the brake how high can you get the RPM's up to before the car wants to move/push threw the brakes? The C6 A6 is usually around 1500 rpm's.

"A lol over 2k" explains why the 60 fts. are so much better with the stock A6 C7's than the stock C6's which was my personal suspicion. The C6 A6 for all intent & purposes has a 1500 rpm "tops" stall speed.

This is the "major" reason the C7 puts down a better 1/4 mile time. I guess GM realized that 1200/1500 rpm launches were way to low to make any real power right off the line for 60 ft. times and changed that for the A6 C7. It just took to many years in my book for GM to realize this, it should of been changed years ago in the C6. HEY!! but at least they got around to it for the C7! "OR" GM had to do something to make the C7 look much better than the C6.

Edit:
C6 owners may I suggest a converter change to keep up with the C7's instead of buying a new car "and" save a lot of money!

No, factory converters go to 2500rpms in the new C7's. This is why you are seeing better 60fts out of stock C7s vs C6 Corvettes.

It's not very scientific due to a number of reasons, but mine pushes at about ~2300 rpm.

You're probably right. The only reason the C7 A6's are so much quicker and faster in the quarter mile than the C6's is the convertor.

Find an otherwise stock car and put a convertor in it, run it and let us know what it does. Two of the fastest tracks in the country are close to Baltimore (Cecil and MIR). If your suspicion is correct, it should go easy 11.5's with no other mods. But I doubt it.

I think I said "MAJOR" reason and not "only" reason.

I'm not saying they are the same, but an engine that makes more torque down low (which is what the LT1 does especially with it's increased compression and VVT compared to the LS3) will cause the same converter to stall at a higher rpm. The extra torque helps with 60's as well all else being equal, which again I'm not saying they are.

In one of the press releases, GM announced that they put a "smaller torque convertor" in the C7. That typically equates to a higher stall speed.

That explains a lot! Lucky the C7 has a higher stall or it might lose to a C6.

Thought about this right after I posted. Will be interesting to compare part numbers

Unfortunately for you, the C7 doesn't lose to a C6, and stock vs. stock will kick the crap out of a Grand Sport.

It might if it had the same low stall the C6 has. No wonder times are so good 0-60. A higher stall explains it.
Maybe since all you have is time you can find a C6 with the same stall as the C7 and run him.

You can bench race and make all the excuses you'd like. But the fact is that within a few weeks of being released, the C7 already ran faster quarter mile times than the C6 (and especially the Grand Sport) did over a period of 9-years. And they'll just get faster with more miles and more seat time.

And yes Sam, I have lots of time. But I'm busy the rest of this week getting ready for a 3-day event at Daytona. I was hoping to get to Atco yesterday, but the weather didn't look good in the morning.

But you do understand a higher stall is what gives the C7 the advantage correct. Kinda like running 4.10s in one car and 2.73s in the other.

It's an advantage...just like more horsepower and torque in the C7 is an advantage, the tires are an advantage, the A6 shift strategy revisions are an advantage, etc., etc.. I seriously doubt it's solely responsible for the big performance gap between the C6 and C7. And it's hardly analogous to 2.73 vs. 4:10 gears, as much as you'd like it to be.
But just think...a C6 A6 with a convertor, drag radials, tune and maybe a CAI or exhaust might be as quick as a bone stock A6 C7.
Like these ones...
11.468 @ 123.52 - Shane Fap - 08 A6 - CAI, hdr, tune, Z06 muff, Nittos - (6354)
11.468 @ 119.14 - HPAvette - 08 A6 Z51 NPP 2.73 – CAI, conv, hdr, tune, DR - (5241)-
11.519 @ 122.72 - James1990 - 08 A6 Z51 NPP - CAI, cf/ hood, hdr, ptb, Z06rear, tune, Invos - (3565)
11.537 @ 121.20 - XStang - 08 A6 Z51 - CAI, Conv, hdr, ptb udp, tune, DR - (3735)
11.545 @ 123.09 - JerzeyLS3 - 08 A6 – CAI, CBx, hdr, tune, DR - (5146)
11.558 @ 120.71 - StageIt - 08 M6 Z51 - CB, hdr, fast, 3.90, Et St - (3085)

A high stall convertor brings way more to the table versus a tune, exhaust, and CAI.
When one of the convertor companies is running 11's (maybe 10's...I cant remember) in a Blazer SUV you can see the performance advantage.

It does? Says who? You? What experience do you have that validates that a convertor swap will gain more than a car that has intake/exhaust mods and a tune?
So in 6-years of LS3's where are the A6's that ran 11.4's or faster with just a convertor? Heck, show me one that ran 11.5-11.6 with just a convertor swap.
And 2300-2500 rpm is not a "high stall convertor".

I'll point out for you, once again, what it has taken to get a C6 LS3 (over the last 6-years) to run times that C7's are already running after 2-months:
11.468 @ 123.52 - Shane Fap - 08 A6 - CAI, hdr, tune, Z06 muff, Nittos - (6354)
11.468 @ 119.14 - HPAvette - 08 A6 Z51 NPP 2.73 – CAI, conv, hdr, tune, DR - (5241)-
11.519 @ 122.72 - James1990 - 08 A6 Z51 NPP - CAI, cf/ hood, hdr, ptb, Z06rear, tune, Invos - (3565)
11.537 @ 121.20 - XStang - 08 A6 Z51 - CAI, Conv, hdr, ptb udp, tune, DR - (3735)
11.545 @ 123.09 - JerzeyLS3 - 08 A6 – CAI, CBx, hdr, tune, DR - (5146)
11.558 @ 120.71 - StageIt - 08 M6 Z51 - CB, hdr, fast, 3.90, Et St - (3085)
11.56x @ 120.02 - Quicktime - 08 M6 - CAI, cb, hdr, pi/tb, tune, DR - (2405)
