I have the manual tranny with 800 miles on my C-7. To me, it sounds like I have a lot of weird engine/valve noise inside the car at idle with a warm engine. Is this normal for these vettes? I've never owned a late model one and I can't compare it to my 82'. I'm running 93 octane 100% gas.
A Diesel engine sounds like a bucket of bolts because of the direct injectors. I wonder if the ticking sound we hear is the "new world order" of direct fuel injection engines?
The BMW/MINI 1.6L and 2.0L engines sound like diesels for this exact reason. When they're cold started, you'd honestly believe they were (because of TDI).
Yes, totally normal. I voiced this concern about a month ago when I noticed the clicking sawing machine / diesel engine sound my car made. I received quite a few reassuring replies stating that this is totally expected from a DI engine.
I have since gotten used to it and it's actually started sounding like music to my ears.

Outside the car is ok but inside the car is another story.
Mine is noisy, but it comes from the A/C compressor. Most make noise, some louder than others.
It's noticeable at idle and low speed. Turn off the compressor, sound disappears.
Luxury cars actually have minature mufflers on the high pressure line out of the compressor in order to quiet this. Guess the Corvette folks thought we weren't the luxury type.
