UR right ... track day would be expensive as described. Especially so if U left the track for daily driving and did not drain the 15w-50.
My 1st oil change will b soon and it will b all Mobil 1; 5w-30 & M1-113.
In April, I will b on the Barber Motor Speedway following the pace car for 2-4 laps so engine will not b stressed. 5w-30 will do just fine.
Thanks
IMO full oil change for track and back is not fasible for most in the long term.
i guess we will have to figure out something in the middle that can be both OK for daily and for the track.
i can see that 15w-50 is bad for daily cold starts.
perhaps 5w40 will be acceptable all around...
Chevy Cust Svc was kind enough to reply to my inquiry and clear this up. The PF64 is the correct filter even with the Z51 package. As I stated before, I'm purchasing the Mobil M1-113.
That's what I understand. At this point, Chevrolet says that the Z51 and non Z51 take the same filter. Mobil shows the M1-113 filter for the 2014 C7 Corvette with no "special" filter for the C7 with the Z51 package.
The first 20,000, or so, C6 Z06's, came from the factory with PF48 filters(as did my 2009 Z06). Never heard of a single one of those Z06's that had catastrophic engine failure due to using the run of the mill AC Delco filter, nor did GM ever send out a memo stating that Z06 owners should not use the PF48 filter or a replacement page for my owner's manual. The Z06 has a 100psi oil pressure gauge where as the LS2's and LS3's have a 80psi gauge. From what I've seen, the Z06 does run at a higher operating oil pressure vs the LS2/3.
Then, in the summer of 2008, when GM released the ZR1, they started installing the UPF48R filter(and the LS9 still had the same 100psi gauge as the Z06) on the ZR1. In the interest of standardization at Wixom, they started using the UPF48R on all their engines(LS7, LS9 and dry sump LS3's).
That said, I believe the Mobil1 M1-113 and the K&N HP-1017 filters are the best available and that is what I use. From what I've read, the UPF48R is the same oil filter as the Mobil1 M1-113 but the Mobil1 filter can be purchased at nearly any auto parts store whereas the ACDelco filter can be difficult to find. I see no sense in paying shipping on a UP48R filter when I can pickup a Mobi1 filter when I buy my oil.

For what it is worth ... Amazon states that the UP48R will not fit the C7 StingRay ..... the Mobil1-M1-113 will fit ? If the both fit previous cars ... strange that they both would not fit the C7. I don't know?
Reporting what I have read.
I'm still a little confused. The owner's manual specifically states PH64. Here is a link to the Service Information Document I referenced in my original posting:
Many will want to change their oil far before the scheduled maintenance period (and use better oil and filters), hence this thread.
That's correct. My dealer won't change the oil until the oil monitor readout is at 5-10%. I might have to do two changes before then. It's a 2year/24k deal so I'll be lucky to get two changes out of them.
So as it stands, the Z51 can use a PF64 or a Mobil-1 113 but not a UPF48R, correct?
On Edmunds long term review, their C7 required an oil change at 7,300 miles. Theta posted results of an oil analysis elsewhere. There is no way that I would go to 7500 miles before the initial oil change. Based on what I've read, I would use a Mobil 1-113 filter with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30 changed well before the oil reminder on the car indicates it is necessary. I suppose if you don't plan on keeping the car long term then a change as indicated by the car with a PF64 filter would be sufficient and it would keep your warranty requirements covered.
If you do plan to keep her, is it even worth letting the dealer change the oil with the average, stock filter and god knows what kind of oil they'd put in her?
