Default locking doors

i know I'm gonna check some crap for this thread, but apparently i'm not smarter than a third grader. I've read manual. I simply want the doors to lock when i walk away and unlock when i arrive, seems simple enough, yeah?? however I always have to use my FOB to lock door. there are only three setting under the "lock door" feature and I've changed them all around for every scenario and still i puts key FOB in house walk a good forty feet shut door and walk into garage and open my door.

Can someone please tell me what the heck "Unlocked door anti-lockout" means. I'veset it to both on and off to no avail. I'msure it makes sense to someone, but doesn't to me. I can sort of understand the anti-lockout, maybe meaning that you cannot lock your keys in vehicle??.

my settings are the following:
unlocked door anti-lockout (off)
auto door unlock (all doors)
delayed door lock (off)

so what is the procedure for being able to get the doors to lock when you get so many feet from vehicle automatically??

thanks

Lol, i was JUST about to post the same question, apparently my car has been sitting unlocked for a long time..

Ohh and GM, it was a horrifically stupid decision to change the default behavior in this manner between the c6 and c7. MANY of us have or had c6's and we jsut assumed our doors were locking. I have to imagine not a few people will find out that you changed the behavior when someone steals their belongings or vandalizes the inside of their car.

VERY VERY BAD DECISION GM..

And thanks in advance to anyone explaining how to fix this..

2 C6's and now a C7 and I never gave a thought to how the C6 came set from the factory. The first thing I did on all cars was to make sure my car locked with a push of the button and honked to confirm it. I've been locking my cars for the last 20 years that way so it's second nature. I'm not keen on the auto lock idea. I had a Fob get locked in my first C6 when I first got it after it locked on me much to my surprise. For that reason alone, auto lock defaulting off makes more sense to me than having it default on.

My understanding of auto-lock is that when you exit, press the lock button on the inside door panel, listen for the 3 chimes, close door. The doors will lock 5 seconds later signaled by your choice of lights flash or horn toot or both as you choose from the menu.

yeah, you're absolutely right. I was just assuming that my doors were locking. I didn't see the point of having a keyless vehicle, then having to take a fob out and press button to unlock. Then one day after having the car for about 2 weeks and I was driving it alot trying to put break-in miles on it, a coworker came to me and said that he was looking at my car and couldn't see a door handle and was feeling around and to their surprise they accidentally opened it. I couldnt believe it as the car is approx. 100ft from building and I'm on second floor.

I would agree with you EXCEPT:
1) the c6's default behavior is to lock when you walk away, so.. it's a reasonable expectation for the same behavior. Making this change opens up many people , like myself, to potential theft.
2) if the auto-unlock is on, then if you walk by the car it unlocks, and without auto-locking, i cant walk too close to my car otherwise it's now unlocked for criminals... this is horrific behavior IMHO

THIS!! What is the point of a keyless vehicle if you need the stupid thing in your hands anyways..

I wonder if there is a way to get that guy from the corvette action center or whatever to take a look at this post. I'd imagine that this will be a problem (even for people who like locking doors with their hands) if you can walk near your car and have it left unlocked...

This video makes it sound like passive locking is enabled by default.

it does indeed seem like that, however its clearly not. Perhaps its malfunctioning in our cars..

And the car has to be running I think to access the car's vehicle personalization settings. Car's in the garage for the winter and I can't start it.

And the scary part is the little "hidden" compartment is also not locked, which is where my pistol is kept. I about passed out when I'm thinking how many places my car has been just sitting there unlocked....

so from what I'm gathering (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that there is no way to set the car to lock and unlock by itself and honk/blink lights passively. that you actually have to push the FOB's lock button?

That's what I'm thinking but we could be wrong. You have to have the car running to access the locking door features but I can't do that anytime soon.

You can simulate an "Engine On" by pressing the ignition switch and keeping it pressed long after the warning to step on the brakes for ignition. You will know when to stop pressing the button when everything comes alive except the engine. I do this all the time in my garage to adjust the settings in the car.

Garcia, i'll have to try that. last night when I was fooling around with this, i did notice that the "vehicle" section was grayed out unless I started the car.

now that i'm thinking about it, and I do not have car at the moment to test. but I've pushed button locked it several times getting the lights/horn. however I have never had to push the unlock button...hmmm. so it does sense the fob and unlocks "passively", if I could only get it to lock on it's own....

thanks for all the input

Thanx for the info. So I'm assuming a short press on the engine buttom simulates accessory mode? Thanx..

Damn, I thought they were just like the C6's as well, guess it's been left unlocked every time I've driven it...

Short press for accessory mode, a really long press for simulated engine on mode.

Along the same lines can you leave the 2nd FOB in the storage area in back and lock the car or will the car remain unlocked. Would you be able to push button to unlock hatch if the car would loch with the 2nd FOB in the storage area or would need the key? Thanks

Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly but I'm confused....not being rude but why would you want to have a second fob left in car? with the issues I've been having, i would think that the car would not lock with fob left in it, but stranger things have happened!!
