Default C7 spring rates

Does anyone know the spring rates for the standard, z51, and magnetic ride control suspension. Specifically regarding the MRC does anyone know what the lower, and upper limits are.

In the market for a C7 wanted a rough comparison, asked the dealer and sales representative did not understand spring rate. So decided to go where the knowledge is.

Have a MDX Elite with MRC, live in a city right next to large rocky mountains. In the mountains sport is great, in the city with pot holes and uneven spaces the comfort setting is appreciated. Thinking of going the same way with the C7.

Thanks

Here's the spring rates for the C6 according to internet forums:

C6 Z06, 531/782
C6 T1 Kit, 582/850
C6 Z51, 526/645
C6 Base, 420/657

But for a good ride, concentrate on tire sidewall height:

245/40-18, 8.5" wide wheel, 3.86" sidewall
285/35-19, 10" wide wheel, 3.93" sidewall

245/35-19, 8.5" wide wheel, 3.38" sidewall
285/30-20, 10" wide wheel, 3.37" sidewall

255/40-18, 9" wide wheel, 4.02" sidewall
295/35-19, 10.5" wide wheel, 4.06" sidewall

265/35-18, 9.5" wide wheel, 3.65" sidewall
305/30-19, 11" wide wheel, 3.60" sidewall
(This tire set is about 1/2" less diameter then OEM)

265/35-19, 9.5" wide wheel, 3.65" sidewall
305/30-20, 11" wide wheel, 3.60" sidewall
(This tire set is about 1/2" more diameter than OEM)

Then stock wheel offsets are 56mm front and 79mm rear. The 265/305 tire sizes will work even at 51mm front and 74mm rear. The OEM tire sizes can work at more offset than that

Thank you for the informed reply. I bet alot of people appreciate this. Maybe it is my love for all things corvette although wondering if anywhere the c7 specifications are published for the high and low numbers for the z51 magnetic dampers.

Thinking about this intelligently I imagine there is going to be a comfort number, a touring number and a track number. I know the c7 has third generations magneto dampers, if memory holds I believe these now are infinitely variable throughout the entire range.

This maybe making things simple for everyone although trying to help everyone understand. C7 even with the magneto dampers still use transverse leaf springs. Therefore the damping rates logically are going to be a plus minus difference from the base z51 rates. Therefore logically the max spring rate in the c7 in track mode is probably greater than the C6 Z51, 526/645 since it has a higher g cornering rate on nearly the same size tire rubber. In comfort mode would imagine the lower be near the base c6 rate of C6 Base, 420/657. Although would not be surprised if the track rate was higher than the previous c6 and the comfort mode was lower than the base c6; especially the lower.

In owning other vechicles with magneto dampers, they are a significant improvement especially in hard urban driving. Therefore the reasons to get these are probably not any better track time. They are simply for comfort and to expand the range of daily usability.

I might be wrong, but honestly in the last fifteen years magneto dampers are in my humble to minorly informed opinion one of the best technological advancements in automobiles.

The question is now in the Z06 are the dampers the same as in the z51 and the only rate increase will come from different transverse leaf springs and bigger anti-roll bars. I imagine this is probably the cost effective method that maybe taken. An additional thought is it might when the numbers are published not show that great of a gain in spring rate numbers between the z51 and z06 on the c7 when one factors in the magneto option ride on the base z51.

My only other thought is it would really be nice if the z06 came with coilover magneto dampers either with or without the transverse spring. That truely would be the right path forward. Maybe this is the hope for the ZR1 when they build it as a model again. I know it takes alot of technical knowledge to understand the value balanced in from an engineering perspective. Although with coilovers and the leaf springs one can get low ride height, low unsprung mass, without having massive pressure on the coilover mounts.

thanks everyone. when you figure out the answer please post!

The problem with the magnetic shocks is that of being tied to an OEM system.

For instance, suppose the driver likes the shocks in track mode but then adds stiffer springs. Where does stiffer magnetic shocks for the stiffer springs then come from ?

Also, I watched a 458 accelerate over some city bumps and humps. I'm sure it felt okay but it didn't look good with the suspension going soft over the bumps

Breaking it down learned a tad more about the C7 suspension. Looks like from these two that the Z51 does have different shocks 45mm in the standard Z51, although it does not show the size of the Magnetic Ride.

Another really interesting part is these magnetic ride shocks react faster with this new dual coil system. Changes the electromagnetic field faster. Not sure if the website means the MagneticRide shocks react 40% faster than the Z51 shocks. Or 40% faster than the second generation MagneticRide shocks
