Yes Pop Tops... Pull the Tab Get full flowing liquid refreshment.
Yes NPP Tubes... Pull the Flaps, Get full flowing audible excitement.
Yes and by all means do not forget to Pop the top on the coupe.
Wow. Quite the gibberish. Nice Phirst Post. Either this is johnglenntwo's new screen name, or you've already had too much "liquid refreshment" for one day.
Ok- I'm a little late to this thread.
Waited 7 months to finally pull fuse 42 on my 2015 A8 convertible.
WOW!! What a difference.
Best free mod ever!
You can really tell a difference at lower RPMs in city driving- now it's always VERY throaty (esp when it used to be quiet in 4 cylinder mode).
Perfectly fine on the highway (doesn't drone much at all).
To those of you in doubt, it literally takes 30 seconds to do this mod.
I pulled number 42 fuse on my 2016 Z.maybe they changed in in 2016?car started valves open like it always does, sounded mean.then after maybe 30 seconds to a minute they closed like the fuse was still in it.mine is a auto 8.in track mode on sound management setting, which should not matter if fuse is pulled.
Are you certain the valves actually closed? My stingray will sound "mean" when its first started, but after about 30 seconds the Wait for help changes the air/fuel ratio (I think), and the sound mellows out a bit. This might be what you're noticing.
The fuse for NPP valves is 42 for the 2016. You may be hearing the AFM valves close. You can not pull the fuse (#32) for these valves without the engine controller setting an error code.
Try putting the car in manual shift mode. This is the only way to keep the car from going into 4 cylinder mode. You should be loud all the time.
There is an aftermarket solution to keep the car from going to V4 and therefore closing the AFM valves. Search for "range technology" They sell a device with plugs into the OBD II port that keep the car in V8 mode at all times.

You may be correct, the cold startup has a very aggressive sound. The sound goes away after the car gets just a bit of heat into the system. It will then start without the aggressive sound unless the car has completely cool.

I believe the cold start aggressive sound is due to the car running an intentionally rich fuel mixture for a brief period of time to put heat into the cats to reduce emissions.

I just want a better sounding 2016 Z06 Automatic.....what is the simple answer in Layman's terms?
I pulled the fuse on my NPP exhaust and added a Corsa Double Helix X-Pipe and it sounds better, now I am much happier with it. But, if I had to do it over again, I would skip the NPP exhaust altogether and just swap in a aftermarket cat back right after delivery.
I know this thread is old but wanted to ask a related question.
Recently bought a 2014 A6 coupe. I removed fuse 41 for the npp valves but it seems to have not made a difference. In weather, eco, and tour modes its quiet. Sport is a bit louder, track is a bit louder than sport but it all sounds the same as it did initially. Anyway, has anyone had this happen after pulling the fuse? It seems to me its like I didn't even remove the fuse but I know it was the correct fuse.
Are you sure that your 2014 has Performance Exhaust? It was optional in 2014. Can you see the valves in the 2 outboard exhaust pipes? They should be open with the motor off and stay open at all times with the fuse removed.
With the fuse in, the valves stay closed most of the time and pop open around 1800 rpm or above.
It is possible that you don't have NPP, the actuators have failed / valves stuck closed, or have aftermarket exhaust without the valves.
I don't have the NPP RPO code, but my exhaust does have the valves. They are open while the car is off. The fuse is out but when I change modes or when I hit the 1800 RPM area, I can tell it gets louder then quiet again at lower RPM and on the highway. Completely quiet as if the fuse was still in it. That's what I found odd is that it seems like I didn't pull the fuse. I had to check three times after pulling the fuse to make sure I didn't pull the wrong one.
It's not a big deal as I have an aftermarket that I'm installing soon. I was just looking to play around with the stock exhaust to some degree with the fuse out so I could make it as loud possible before making any drastic changes.
LOL - the RPO code for Performance Exhaust is NPP...
If the 20 amp EXH2 fuse (#41 (2014), #42 (2015 - 2018), #87 (2019)) is pulled you should only hear the exhaust get louder with rpm.
It might be worth having someone watch the valves or set up a camera to video them as you change rpm. You might want to use a mirror to keep your observer or camera out of the exhaust... If the valves are still moving, the stock wiring has likely been modified.
