Default ERI Battery Protection Package, HELP!

I received the battery protection package with my C7 convertible, and decided to try it out. Not that my vette needed to charge the battery, but just to see how this thing worked.

Read thru the instructions, and thought I understood everything. The little car light came on indicating the unit had power. I plugged it into the cigarette lighter socket, but for the time I had it in place, I never got another light to come on. No indication of it charging the battery, a partial charge, or that the battery was full and didn't need charging.

It seems that I should have received some indication of the battery condition and not just that the unit was receiving power. Is the unit bad?

Your problem is that the cigarette lighter inside your C7 by the shifter is not powered when the car is off. You must use the one in the back right hand side under the hatch. It is powered all the time.

I've been using mine since last November and it works great. Just run the wire under the hatch over the gasket, then close hatch. It will not damage the wires or the gasket. When first installed an on light will show with the car logo along with an amber middle light with a half full battery logo. When it goes to full charge a green light comes on with the full battery logo.

Hope this helps.

One more thing. To not forget to unplug when about to drive my C7, I made up a 5 x 8 sign saying "Charging" and place to on the windshield under the wiper blade. At my age (70 ) helpful reminders are a must.

Edit: Love the color of your C7 Vert, then again I'm biased.

Great advice & many thanks. Mine's a convertible, but I found the plug as soon as I opened the trunk. At soon to be 70 (Nov.) I'll take that good advice also!

One more thing. Do you leave the red plastic piece on the cord, or do you take it off?

Yes. There's something about that Laguna Blue.

The Red plastic piece? What Red plastic piece? I don't remember (LOL), but since I had to go look at mine and it is not there, I must have taken it off. Probably it was in the way so it is now gone.

It's in place in the picture you submitted. You may have removed it since it does come off.

2vette Ed: "One more thing. Do you leave the red plastic piece on the cord, or do you take it off?"

When you said "on the cord" I thought it must have been a red UL tag that I removed. But now I understand what you are talking about. So another trip to the garage to now disconnect the charger plug from the outlet.

The red piece on the plug end is still attached on my charger cord end and has always been. Apparently there is no reason to remove. So leave it on yours.

Sorry for my confusion. Now we can wait for the jokes from the young ones here on CF about us "oldies". But without us they wouldn't be here.

I tried that but found I had to get back out of the car, remove the sign, then get back in.

So now I throw a micro fiber cloth over the shifter when it's plugged in. I get in after removing the charger, then put away the cloth, then go.
