Default Engine Compartment Component

What is the silvery/chrome looking cylindrical component just in front of the brake fluid reservoir? Don

That's the vacuum power brake booster.

Going from the engine compartment firewall forward there is the classic, large black brake vacuum booster with the brake cylinder and reservoir mounted on it. Forward of that is the shiny cylinder.

If it is part of the vacuum system it’s certainly a relatively new component. My 2009 Pontiac G8GT with an L79 engine has the black booster/brake cylinder/reservoir but nothing like the silver component. Don

Its an electric vacuum pump to keep enough vacuum for the brake booster in certain conditions, been used for many years on many different cars/trucks. First time for corvettes though.

Don, I'm well aware of what you're talking about. That's the official/proper name for that component. It's new to the Corvette platform, as kp mentioned.

Edit: Just so you know I'm not crazy...
