After running my C7 and "gunning" it now and then I have noticed a crackling (popping) sound coming from the engine down through the muffler after I come to a stop and shut the car down. I also have noticed a great deal of carbon build up [in the 1st and last exhaust pipe. I usually run the car in sport mode using the automatic transmission and have had the performance shift kick in now and then which at times really downshifts way too much when I begin to brake to slow the speed down to like 20 mph causing the engine/transmission to labor (race). Anyone else have the same type of scenario? Would appreciate any input. Thanks.
do you have z51? If so I believe its the oil dripping back into the oil tank (theres two) and its hot so it sizzles a bit when it hits the "storage pan"
As far as the soot. Yes its normal. DI motors run with loots of soot, / rich when you are on it. Its completely normal if your using it.

Thank you. No I do not have the z51. Am planning on taking the car in to the dealership to have checked out as I haven't really heard that sound all summer until just the last couple of days. Shouldn't have to worry about "gunning" a corvette now and then. Hopefully I am just being over cautious.
The AC condensation sounds like it falls right on the exhaust pipe, if that's what you mean....mine does that too.
Tks Higgs. Could very well be that as I have had the a/c on quite a bit lately. After this problem started I turned the performance exhaust in the driver mode settings to off (always open) and have been driving now in the touring mode. I still have the crackling sound but the performance shift does not kick in and almost drop my transmission after I slow down after doing a rapid acceleration.
The AC condensate dripping on the pipes makes noise for sure, but the exhaust on mine makes all kinds of popping/crackling noises besides that when its hot out. When pulling in the garage after a spirited drive with the roof and AC off it sounds like someone is randomly hitting the exhaust with a small hammer, lot of noise comes from the mufflers and tips when cooling down.
