Default C7 Question

Asking for a friend who has a C7 2015. When you wash the car with soap and water you have a soap stain on the underside of the hood around the opening on the fire blanket. It soaks up the water/soap. Does anyone have this issue or how to stop it. The concern is he want to air brush it but with water/soap stain it would cause a costly problem.

Tks

WOW

I have washed mine by hand as well as taken it through many different kinds of car washes and I have never had that problem on my C7.

Seems like the hood louver housing should seal to the hood to make water go down the air duct, and yours does not fit tight enough.. You might try checking the mounting screws.

That pic is of my car. Never been driven in the rain so it has to come from washing, which is easily noticeable by the soap staining.

The screws are tight and everything seems to be tight and in place. Is there a 'how to' on removal of this or does anyone know how to get the louver/housing apart?

No. I dry by hand, no blower or anything like that. Usually don't open the hood after a wash. Come to think of it maybe I should to see if I can tell where it's coming in at or if the liner is acting like a sponge/wick.

Are you sure you do not have a coolant leak that is spraying antifreeze on the liner?

I have had no leaks and mine has the same stain. Maybe the plastic panel under the hood vents wasnt tight enough??

I don't have that on mine either and have hand washed plenty using a leaf blower to get water out of this area.

Just a thought, but couldn't you soak it down and rinse the stain out? Then let it dry. What kind of soap are you using, and could that be making it more noticeable?

I read a post on another forum from someone who has this same issue and his car was a QC car. Mine was a QC car. May have been something to do with that.

My zaino is in the mail and I am going to wash a couple times this weekend to apply the polish.

I am going to check after each wash for water and also may be able to get my hands on a moisture meter to check a few spots. Then I will know exactly where it came from and how to go about a solution. I'll post back with results Sunday night or sometime Monday.

There is a detailed removal process with pictures and video on one of the venders that is selling the LED lights that could be installed there. It seems to be very complete on how to take apart and reinstall. I will look for the link and post it if that might help

I would always lift the hood up for several minutes after washing, when possible. Mine drips for some time.

It gives me some time to wipe the underside of the hood (painted parts) and the exposed pieces of the engine, as well. Sort of in the same category as wiping the door sills and the painted surfaces inside of the doors. Or the underside of the hatch/trunk.
