It seems noone has come up with gear swap options for the C7. It was mentioned to me by Texas Speed that ring/pinion sets from a C6 might work...anybody tried that? Top of 4th and 5th gear in these cars suck, and would like to put a bit taller gear in it...lol
It is my understanding that the c6 gears wont work and to my knowledge there are no gear options available other than 3.42, 2.73, 2.56. Because those are the factory gear sets you can buy.
A 3.42 Gear in a C7 A6 would really wake this car up and give it better gearing for the entire 1/4 mile. I know the drop between gears is more than the A8 but the increased gearing would bring the revs up a lot quicker.
Well, Motive and Richmond need to get with the program....these cars suffer at the big end....like hitting a brick wall in 5th gear.
We are working on it with Motive. I have already sent all the parts needed for a rebuild. Not as easy as just get it done though, someone is paying close to 100k for tooling, and that is just for one ratio. The C6 gears will not work, the pinion is too short compared to the C7. I really wanted to get a 3.15 for the A6 cars. I may build a custom housing so that a C6 gear set would work, but it is not in the works as of right now.
Would love to run a 3.73, but of course isn't available on the C7....wont buy another first year car again...frustrating.
Why would you think things will be better if you wait? The days of having several rear axle ratios to choose from on a factory build are gone.
Though small, I’d have liked to have the option of the Z51 2.73 ratio in my base model A6. It has been certified, shouldn’t be a big deal but you can’t do it. Don
Of course it is better after a couple years...first generation cars like this C7 have very few options. In a year, or so there will be plenty of options available for the C7. I, bit on this one, and got one of the first ones out...now, I am impatient as have maxed out the car without going crazy, and tearing apart the motor.
Glad you guys are working on it, and I realize the front end is expensive...however, people in this space are innovators, and being first on the market with something like this is big, especially when the car has big issues in 4th, and 5th gear.
Well I have a Z51 which at the road course its fine.. but the gears suck at the drag strip.. 2nd way too short and 3rd too short.. at 105mph you shift into 4th that goes to 153mph
so at 105mph car falls on its face lol
I want the Z06 gears .. first a lil wide but 2nd and 3rd help the quarter and wont hurt the road course much expect for add a shift or two
I don't have a problem in the 1/4...car is pretty strong. As it sits I trap around 135-136. My problem is 150+ when I run at The Texas Mile. once I get to about 5k in 4th gear it sucks from then on...so, am hoping a 3.73 gear will hlp me overcome the gear issue up top. With the power it is making it should be ding better...also did some research and the C7 is not very competitive when you look at high speed aero indexes...even a most recent GTO has better drag ratios...the C5 was the most aero vette ever made.
C7 has great aero coefficient drag.
Mine pulls good just the gears are wide. Shift down to 4,800rpms slows it when it could stay in 3rd longer. Be nice if 5th and 6th were shorter..
Different rear end gears will not do anything for the RPM drop between gears, especially the 3rd-4th and 4th-5th shifts...the Achilles heel of the Z51 M7 transmission. That transmission is meant more for autocrossing, not road racing/drag racing/one mile racing. A set of 4.10 or 4.56 gears with the C7 Z06 transmission is the solution you're looking for. A 4.88 gear would be even better.
