Default Head/Cam installation prices

What is an average price to have this work done (without the tune).

I got an off-the-cuff quote for $2k, which seemed way more expensive than the charge for my C6.

TIA.

there is a lot more labor involved, it is a different engine. I would look for 1500 or so for labor only, though.

This engine has no gaskets, so when we pull the front cover and oil pan, it takes hours to clean all factory silicone off and also have to take your time re installing with new silicone. 16-20 hours in not uncommon. Hope that helps.

PM me if you are looking to source the car south. We will be glad to spec a cam package for your needs/goals.

Yes these new engine are way different----An LT1 engine with VVT and DOD you are limited to the cam size--If you choose to retain the VVT and DOD the cams are very small and make little extra HP------BUT if you wanna be a big dog---You can put a nice cam in an LT1 BUT you have do a DOD DELETE and a VVT LIMITER-------as well as installing new LS7 lifters (non DOD) and all the appropriate parts----Just parts only about $1700 and then the labor another $1500
Plus a tune is a must
If you go to what they call a "DOD and VVT friendly"set up--you go thru all the labor--less parts but limit the added HP to 25-35 RWHP
PS: DOD deleted and VVT limited cams and with LT headers are allover the internet that make an added 100 RWHP !!!! huge differnce

Thanks for the info fellas!

I understand the motor is very different than my LS2 & am definitely interested in going big.

I have an inquiry into Lingenfelter for their H/C package as I have their heads on my C6, but I heard their packages are very conservative (albeit high quality). It's also unclear if they are VVT/DOD delete.

Its a new car also so there's always a higher price early on... You know how that goes...

The good part is we have heads/cam packages on exchange that are awesomely priced.

CNC head porting is well under a grand on exchange & when you add the cam parts your talking under $2,000 in parts for a power gain of 100+HP!!

ya these new lt1's take a long time to do a cam. they are way more involved and prepping the surface's for the rtv takes time.

I'm sure the info is out there but this seems to be a solid thread with solid cam info.. I'm going with an ECS Supercharger / ECS Meth Kit / LG Motorsports LT Headers / Tune and I want to add the most "aggressive" blower cam without the VVT / DOD delete. #1 which cam would best be suited for my setup? #2 on my setup, what kind of real world RWHP increase can I expect on this type of setup?

I really don't understand this. My h/c package came with GM head gaskets.

What needs to be RTV'd?

Just delete the Dod lifters, what is your reasoning for wanting to keep them other than gas mileage? Have you seen our 2" headers we offer for the C7? 100% USA stainless steel and made. Every component is us made too and comes with oem gaskets, extensions, and they are hand tig welded and v band flanged. To the other poster on the rtv the oil pan and front cover use it.

Yep, that's pretty much it.. gas mileage. What do you have in mind if I deleted the DOD lifters? Also, the LG Motorsports Super Pro headers are VERY attractive (even at 1 7/8").. I'm open to other headers but the 2" headers I've seen, the #'s on HP and TQ aren't quite up to the level of gains as the LG Motorsports. I'm still open to your input as I have yet to buy my headers

The blower cam, at this point of my build planning, is a bump in the road for me. The most info I hear about cams is "they will give you a little extra HP" ...well, that's great and all, but that's about the extent of answering any cam related inquiries that I have.. lol.

you have to disassemble the front of the engine and pull the oil pan to change the cam on these motors. has nothing to do with head gaskets.

Here is the thread on our headers.
