Do you have the option of choosing whether or not you want the 4 cylinder mode in different driving modes with A8? If not, is there any accessory made to defeat this?
you can tune out the 4 cylinder mode with a custom tune or a diablosport, and there is a defeater made by a company who's name escapes me at the moment that plugs into the diagnostics port. It also will not shift into 4 cyl when in manual mode in sport or track.
I bought the auto. One thing to consider is if you are a bigger guy, shifting can get a bit tricky. I'm 6'1", 245 and I wouldn't have been comfortable having to shift all the time. I use the paddles in sport mode around town, and put it in D on the highway, best of both worlds to me. But its a preference thing. Oh and my wife would have wrecked it if I got a stick anyways......
The A8 is a blast to drive, one looks for an excuse to drive somewhere. I've had a manual in my last 4 Corvettes and when your fooling around you're usually in one gear, with the A8 touch the throttle and off you go with perfect ratios, awesome will never go back.
As far as V4 vs V8 no one and myself in the car can hear anything with the exhaust unless your running along side. It's in and out in 250ms which is undetectable.
Manual in my last 5 and loving the A8 in my sixth.
I've had plenty of manuals but these new auto's are quite frankly...better. If you enjoy traffic and driving up twisty mountain roads..stick with a stick. If you want the best of both worlds..get an A8.
I had an auto tranny in my 2014. I hated the way it went from 8 cylinders to 4, back and forth anytime your not hard on the throttle. When it switches back and forth so does the exhaust, vroom vroom, blah, blah, it drove me crazy. The auto seemed to slide into gear instead if quickly getting there. By the way the 8 to 4 cylinder worked with the paddle shifters as well. Due to that and the seat being too confining for my body ( 6’ 4” and 245lbs) I swapped keys for a 2013 427 vette with 4,000 miles. The auto was easier to drive the manual is more fun. I’ve had 5 vettes since 208, 2 auto and 3 manual. If I buy a C7 and thats a big “IF” after getting my 427, it will be a 7 speed. Thats just my experience, as others have said, test drive both then pick the one you feel the most comfortable with. Good luck.
