I have an M7 and love the driving experience. I had an auto in my C6 and loved it too though. You can't go wrong. Since this isn't a daily driver the M7 is simply more fun for me to drive.
1. What do you plan to do with the car?
2. Are you an old fart?
Drag racing, get an A8
Road racing, get an M7
Weekend car, Get an M7
Daily driver...meh....still get an M7
The automatic is mechanically capable of shifting very fast, if you want to use the flappy paddles though there is a 1 second delay between when you push the paddle and when the transmission gets the signal to shift...which at that point it does very fast, but overall it feels slow with paddles, left in automatic mode it's good to go though (from what i've heard.)

There are enough cars at the dealers now to test drive.
I have an M7 and thought about the A8 but I have a DCT in my other car and its not to poo poo on the TC trans but I would stick with the M7 if its not a DCT.
I have driven manuals in pretty much everything and the DCT is the first auto trans I've owned outside of an SUV.
Now if you have not driven a DCT then you'll probably be perfectly happy with the A8. I was impressed watching some of the 1/4 mile video's with the A8 just not sure if the logic would be good enough for it to be a fun ride.
Remember that the A8 will go in and out of 4 cylinder mode in all driving modes and that the M7 only goes to 4 cylinder mode in ECO. The shift into and out of 4 cylinder mode changes the exhaust note quite a bit and gets irritating to some.

The A8 is a blast to drive, one looks for an excuse to drive somewhere. I've had a manual in my last 4 Corvettes and when your fooling around you're usually in one gear, with the A8 touch the throttle and off you go with perfect ratios, awesome will never go back.
As far as V4 vs V8 no one and myself in the car can hear anything with the exhaust unless your running along side. It's in and out in 250ms which is undetectable.
Your best bet is to find a dealership that will let you drive each. They are both great cars and you really can't go wrong with either one...
Having put 500-600 miles each on both the M7 and A8, the only thing that would keep ME from getting the A8 is the lag while manually shifting, and the way it can hunt between shifts while doing transitional driving (quite noticeable when quickly getting on/off the throttle, canyon driving etc...)

In sport mode it holds your gear, solves that problem in auto
As the OP of that thread, let me summarize by stating that after two weeks of driving in N.VA traffic and getting accustomed to the features/functions of the paddle shifters, I'm glad I opted for the A8.

Do you have the option of choosing whether or not you want the 4 cylinder mode in different driving modes with A8? If not, is there any accessory made to defeat this?

Old Fart? well this "old fart" 73 to be exact drives an M7!
Had 1 auto in my whole life and hated it as a daily driver. If you like driving an auto, then that is what you should get. If you like feeling the road and being in control, get a M7. My wife sucks at driving a stick, and thought maybe the rev matching would at least help, it doesn't. :-) Which isn't really a bad thing..... she doesn't drive it now.
I'm ready to order a new stingray and having a hard time deciding on auto or manual. I like both. Any one have any thoughts? thanks.
I'm in my 50s, fast approaching old-fartdom. For 15 years, my Vette has been my daily driver in urban traffic.
My 2015 C7 on order will be a manual, just like my last two Vettes. I like the way I feel more connected to the car with a manual. For me, it makes driving the car more fun.
I've had plenty of manuals but these new auto's are quite frankly...better. If you enjoy traffic and driving up twisty mountain roads..stick with a stick. If you want the best of both worlds..get an A8.
