I know with a diablo unit you can load and unload tunes. Custom and back to stock again. However if I were to get longtubes headers and the shop does a custom dyno tune for the headers what can make that tune go away. If my battery dies will I lose my tune and it go back to stock?

no u won't lose it but it is harder to switch tunes unless you are doing it yourself.

Thanks Higgs. If I get headers and have ECS do a custom dyno tune then I will sell my diablo in tune. No need for it at that point. I just thought if my battery died or something along those lines the custom tune would be deleted and car would return to stock tune settings.
You can either sell it to recoup some cash, or keep it and use it to read codes and diagnostics. That's what I did on my C6 after I got a custom tune once I was supercharged.
The only issue with selling it would be that it would still be married to your car. Diablo charges $160 to unlock it which really depresses the used value of the unit. When considered, it may be a cheap solution to just keep it for data logging or diagnostics. Also it is unclear if the tune in the car can be modified by HPTuners, a second Diablo unit, or other software. Others with more experience. can chime in on that one.

Oh ok then I will keep it. No biggy either way. I was under the impression that once the stock tune is reloaded then it can be used on another vehicle.
I thought once the stock tune was reloaded back to the car the Intune would then be able to accept another VIN??? I bought a used Intune from a guy who upgraded to a Procharger so he didn't need it. I plugged it in to the OB2, it read my VIN, then I loaded the 93 AFE tune. Anyhow, that is how it worked for me,
Yes, oncve you restore the stock tune it is unlocked and can be used on another suported application.
OP, why not have a custom tune done with our CMR software so you can load it to the intune?
This was you keep your existing tool, and, you don't have to worry about CVN issues with the dealer.

This is what I did. I like the idea of only having to carry around the handheld to switch tunes, go back to stock, etc. Very convenient for roadtrips, trips to the dealer for service, etc.

You won't ever lose your tune if the battery goes dead or gets dis-connected--However after that happens your ECM has to "realearn" all the part throttle fuel trims--Normally this happens after about 50 miles of normal driving on it's own--Re-learning happens because the ECM won't know the altitude-- if you are at sea level or up in the mountains or what the air density is so it starts learning that all over again
-The more modded your engine is the longer it can take---Also the more modded your engine is the further off your fuel trims can be and it may idle weird for awhile or try to die and may be rich/lazy at WOT
