Default C7 Clutch Engagement

I took delivery of a new 2014 Z51 M7 Vert in June of last year, and was ecstatic about everything in and about the car, with one exception. From the moment I drove it away from the dealership, I noticed a slight pulsation/chatter in the clutch when engaging first or reverse gear. The dealer said to put some miles on the car, and it would probably go away. I drove the car last summer, went on the Caravan to B/G and had a great time. It now has over 8,000 miles on it, and the pulsation/chatter is still there, sometimes barely noticeable, sometimes bad enough that my wife (to whom cars are a necessary transportation evil) says “Gee honey, there’s something wrong with this car?”

I have had it in to two different dealers, and both have told me that it is no different than any of the other manuals that they have driven. It currently resides at the second dealer’s lot, and, after much discussion, he is going to contact the local G/M engineering rep to look at my vehicle and pass judgment.

I have had many cars in my lifetime, an abundance of them with manual transmissions, and have never had anything but linear, smooth engagement of the clutch. The current dealer said that my vehicle has a dual mass clutch, and that probably is the difference. My prior Vette was a 1996 Grand Sport – also with a dual mass clutch, and it was nothing but butter-smooth.

The purpose of this epistle is to ask those of you with the M7 transmission in your cars what the clutch engagement is like when pulling away from a stop in first or reverse. Do you notice a pulsation/chatter upon engagement or is the engagement of the clutch smooth and linear?

C7 manual has a dual mass flywheel and a dual disc clutch. I think you dealer is a little mixed up. My manual has a very smooth clutch engagement.

IF it smooths out could also depend on how you break in the clutch.

Mine had a chatter when new, but has smoothed out with about 4,000 miles on the car.
Seems like it used to chatter a little worse when I let the clutch out slowly, but now it is completely gone.

I bought a new honda that was driven from a dealer over 150 miles away, they sent someone to get the car must have had very little manual experience.

I had a chatter from day one from someone riding the clutch, it went away after a month or so.

My bet would be someone riding the clutch, it should straighten out with some wear on it.

I agree, this will help it bed in faster and when the surfaces all become parallel and mated it should smooth the engagement. If not you might try changing the your release of the clutch and applying of the throttle simultaneously as a c4 with its single disc/pull style diaphragm pressure plate isn't going to drive the same.

My car is exceptional smooth since new. I now have 8k miles, I do know what you are talking about tho as my 2008 c6 had the exact same problem since brand new till the day I sold it with 30 k....servicing dealer claimed normal could get better with mileage but never did I just got used to it. When I picked up by c7 last September I immediately noticed the difference/ smoothness. FWIW selling dealers head Corvette Tech told me I should have brought it back to them He would have immediately put a new clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing in the car as they should all release almost off idle in first or reverse with no chatter at all he has replaced many for the same complaint under warranty with next to little miles. The tech also claimed that is they do have chatter its is either an original installation problem or someone??? Smoked the clutch to which sometimes depending how bad will not wear in and stop....Ps the c6 was NCM delivered???

Hope this helps
