Hey guys, I know that talking about tires is much like beating a dead dog here, but I've been searching and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for, and would appreciate some good input.
Everyone knows that the toyo r888 tire is a 315/30/20 which makes them right about 27.4" tall. Obviously the suggested rim size is 10.5-11.5" in width and our stock z51 rims are 20x10 which is .5" smaller than the recommendations from the manufacturer.
With that said what is the actual downfall to putting these tires on a 10" wide rim? Other than the obvious it's not recommended by toyo, what is an actual reason for not using them, will it have an adverse effect on performance? I know that the tires may look a little weird being a bit wider than the rim... Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but I think if it's not a big deal then it would save us z51 guys a lot of money by not having to buy new rims just to fit drag radials.
Please someone give me some good input here, try to make me feel like I'm not really going crazy over this lol.

I've been hoping to see the 315s on some factory wheels so I could make a decision on how it really looks. I'm not super picky but at the same time I don't want to be the guy rocking the "Joe Dirt" Vette with the tires hanging out. I have the 285's on it now and they look like they came on the car.
The problem with the 285's is the height being over 28" which causes rubbing issues. Depending on what kind of info I get on this subject depends on if I pull the trigger on 315s or not, I'm just not sure there's a bigger issue that I may be missing here or not, I do know there's a slim chance that air could leak out of the tires on hard cornering, and the tires would even roll a bit on hard cornering, but I'll be using them for the drag strip, not for road tracking...

285/35/20 sizing specs say 27.7 tall. Mine do not rub and the car is lowered a little. They actually hook pretty well especially considering their size. If the car was an auto they would be great.

I'm sorry, you're correct normally 285/35/20 is 27.9",but these are 27.7". Don't know what I was thinking saying over 28" lol
