Default Open source software

In the user’s manual under Instruments and Controls, page 5-12 there is this statement:
Software Info: Press > while Software Info is highlighted to display open source software information.
What is “open source software”? Does this imply that it may be possible to do some sort external programming to the instruments?

I see the same thing in CUE in my Cadillac, but nothing has come of it to my knowledge...

"Open-source software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose"

Just means that there is publicly shared code being used in the software.

Exactly - it's just a disclaimer that they're using bits and pieces that are covered by the GPL.

I wouldn't be sure its the GPL, unless they released their software under the GPL as well. If so someone point me to the source, I would like to read through it.

Some of the codecs would almost have to be included under the GPL, wouldn't you think? I've not looked too deeply into it - OSL would have some pretty serious limitations unless it's just legacy code they've continued to drag along over the years.

Good list @ GNU: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-...ftwareLicenses
