Default Which ported intake manifold?

Car currently has long tubes and flex fuel. Getting an aFe intake next week. Debating on going with a ported intake manifold. For those who have installed one was it worth it? And which company to go with?

Thanks

we have done back to back testing on bone stock cars, bolt on's, and cam C7's and the gains are there to be had. On a bone stock car we saw 6.7 rwhp, bolt on around 9. and a heads, cam car picked up 17.2 rwhp. We offer porting in house and would love to do it for you!

I have a Faster Proms Intake Manifold on my stock C7. It seems to make the car more responsive in "E" & "T" and definitely runs & idles smoother. Jeremy Formato actually installed one on my G8, as well as ported my TB when he was in Ft. Myers, FL a few years ago. When you compare the stock intake side by side with the Ported Intake, there are quite a few ridges that have been removed, as well as the diagonal PVC internal vent.

This is in NO way a knock against Jeremy's (Fasterproms) quality of work or the value of his services. Clearly his cars do extremely well, and lots of happy customers. BUT...I tried his ported intake manifold and TB on my 2014 C7. -On my car- the removal of the PCV tube crossing the snout of the intake caused a distinct whistle (almost like a turbo) with any appreciable throttle opening/vacuum. Noticeable inside the car, very noticeable outside. With the OEM CAI, it was dialed down a bit. With my aFe CAI, it was distracting. I actually thought I had a leak from improperly installing the manifold initially. It was a time consuming and frustrating effort to remove, inspect, and re-install just to find there was nothing wrong. I exchanged PMs with another CF member who experienced exactly the same thing. He reported this was a known characteristic in his communications with FP. I re-installed the OEM intake manifold, and the whistle was gone. New runner seals (just to be safe) and properly torqued on every exchange.

I also experienced a cold start stumble/stall frequently with two different FP ported TBs. The one I tried from another vendor did not exhibit this characteristic. I went back to stock. Again, my car is untuned, so I'm sure this may be solvable.

My dyno thread in C7 Tech covers my results with my -untuned- car with both the FP ported TB and intake manifold. I have no doubt that this combo, if tuned for, would produce the notable gains FP is known for. My untuned car did not get much.

Again, this is absolutely no knock against Jeremy, just sharing my experience so others are eyes wide open if they experience something similar.

Interesting to get another perspective on this. I trust xp800 greatly, so I don't doubt his experiences.

As a counterpoint, I haven't had any issues, and everything has been positive. VR had no issues with the tuning, and so far as I know, there are no odd whistles, etc. However, my car is obviously supercharged, and my BOVs make the screaming exhaust quiet in comparison.

I was tuned from the beginning when installing both of these, so I can't comment on stock operation, and I've also not tried Ben's products (though the quality is very nice).

Just another viewpoint on a different type of setup.

I currently have no whistle sound. My CAI is stock with a K & N Filter, but have Halltech coming. I am not tuned, but plan on tuning in a year or 2, once I'm sure there aren't any surprises. In both my G8's I have ported intake manifolds and TB. The one here in Naples was done by Jeremy. The other came from Vector Motorsports. I personally removed the PCV tube from that one. I also personally ported the TB, as I had watched Jeremy, and found one just needed patience and a Dremel grinder. Once that car was tuned by Patrick G, it has run great (Cam, Stall & more - High 11 sec car).

I have no idle issues, and have noticed my throttle response is much better with this Formato Faster Proms intake. Before, when I backed out of the garage, I had to add considerable throttle/gas to get it to roll over my yellow stops. Now, I just put it in gear, and it powers over them( reverse) without adding throttle.

If it gains me little HP, the smoothness and better throttle response are worth the money.

Will let everyone know if I get a whistle when I add my Kalltech intake next week.

I have a Fastproms posted intake and a Weapon X T-Body---No whistle at all---
On my EFILIVE data logger it showed definite increases in airflow---More airflow = more HP----No driveability issues at all----I did however have to DE-TUNE my TQ response tables as the take off from a dead stop became so violent it was not fun to drive !! (not a problem to some)-----about 6% detune from 0-20 MPH--- Actually again proved how well the manifold and T-Body increased HP and responsiveness

Sounds like the whistle is hit or miss. I had a Fasterproms on my car for about a month and it did have a faint whistle to it during moderate acceleration. I may try a WeaponX sometime down the road to match my ported TB from them whenever Ben gets cores available.

I purchased Kracka's Formato Intake Manifold for my Z51 A8. Initially I was just running a stock airbox with a K & N Filter and the AFE spacer between the TB and Intake.. No whistle that I could hear. I now have my Halltech CAI installed. Still NO WHISTLE. I do have a UPR catch Can with 2 outlets, one going ito the CAI. Don't know if this or the TB spacer could make any noise difference or somehow eliminate the whistle.

I am very satisfied with Jeremy's ported intake manifold. Haven't ported my TB yet, but will do that myself. Tune is stock but the throttle response in E & T with the FP Intake Manifold and Halltech CAI is very much improved. Don't notice any difference between Vette and my other vehicles, like I did at first.

My new Vette is Scary Fast in "T" / Race! Definitely feels faster than my heavily modded G8 GT that runs in the high 11's.

Ok, I know people slam the Sniper but I'm running g one with 92mm opening on my LS1 and it is rated for street engines with a 1800 to 6500 rpm. I got it tuned at LG last week and it seems to be a good choice. In fact they showed me 3 cars they have in shop with the Sniper low rise. I'm not complaining about mine which replaced the LS6 intake. Response was great. Tune is much better.
