Default Weapon X Diffuser Install Question

Hey guys - quick question for anyone who has done the Weapon X diffuser install (as I can't get a hold of the shop and my back bumper is sitting in my garage):

Did your exhaust heat shield align well with the inlet on the bumper? The top portion of my heat shield (long side of the trapezoid) does not seem to align / fit into the bumper. I realize that the CF is much stiffer than the factory plastic, so I'll stress that I have put quite a bit of muscle into trying to get it into place. I've also relieved some material from the inlet where it was binding which helped a bit. All of the heat shield clips on the sides and bottom (short sides of the trapezoid) fit into the diffuser; however, the top isn't close to going all the way through. The outside of heat shield (where it rolls back into the clips) seems to be too big for the space provided.

Thoughts? Are there any tricks to this? I'm starting to wonder if my piece is defective or if i'm just an idiot (I've had it since October and am just installing it now).

Pic below shows the alignment and how far the top of the heat shield sticks out. Small dots on heat shield are the tack welds for the clips and seams in the shield. Bottom of the pic is the lisence plate area (the part is sitting up-side down).

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
