I'm about to order my new 2016 vette with the z51 package and I was just wondering is the performance exhaust that comes with it good enough to leave on it? Like does it compare to the borla and corsas aftermarket ones?
It seems most of us really like it, some don't think the factory exhaust has the right sound, and others don't think it's loud enough. I'm in the "like it" camp, but it's certainly not as loud as many aftermarket systems. Try to find a dealer or private owner who will let you check it out first hand.
Most aftermarket systems if not all will make a little more power and will sound all little louder. I have NPP and it sounds great. I will be getting an aftermarket system because I want a louder exhaust. The advantage of NPP is that it has valves to control sound level in case you want it to be quite. Borla system will support NPP which is a good thing. If you get the Z51 package, it will come with performance exhaust anyway.

Here is a video of the Borla exhaust..Just in case you are interested.
I test drove a car with it and loved it. We ended up buying one without. Immediate regret. I ended up buying the NPP and having the dealer install for 1500.00. I bought the AFM disabler and now it sounds sweet all the time
i am pretty underwhelmed with the aftermarket exhuast on these cars. It seems that the NPP is about 90% the sound you get from a switching to a different muffler. I am sure aftermarket is LITTLE louder, and LITTLE better sounding. but for OEM under warranty, i would gladly take NPP.

only thing worth the time is adding headers.
A person would spend too much money for minimal gains.
Love my NPP, I've always changed out my exhaust in my cars but this is the first car with a stock mufflers 20K miles later! I added headers shortly after getting the car and it sounds incredible, best part is I can make them quiet when coming home late.
I ordered my car WITHOUT NPP exhaust as I didn't think it was worth $1200
In hindsight I made the right choice !!!!
I bought the Flowmaster quad 4" tips for $80 --they are stainless and dual walled just like the stock NPP tips----Very nice quality
THEN I took the tips to my local muffler shop and they removed both my muffllers and installed the tips for $100--So total cost was only $180
The sound is incredible !!!! Very race car sounding at WOT with a super growl---However at cruising speeds totally un noticeable---No drone--so annoying resonance
Just slightly louder then NPP open all the time-----HP gains I'm sure are minimal maybe 5 RWHP--- But far cheaper than paying $1200-$2400 for a cat back system that would sound the same but unleash less HP---
These cars have 4 cats--they quiet the car down sufficiently all on there own----
The money I saved went on for other mods----
Hi,
Can you pls. take a picture of the work done? I'm not satisfied with the stock sound of mine either. Did you eliminate the mufflers totally?
Pls. include part number of the tips and where you ordered.
Thanks.

but you missed the point of the NPP. you can get near what your car sounds like. THEN also get dead quiet on command. Thats where IMO the money goes for me. If you want the ability to have loud and quiet on command its going to cost you.

Headers is the best mod I've done to the car!
Did you add Long tube or Mid Length Headers? X-pipe?

I will post photos later YES I removed BOTH the mufflers and sold them for about the same price I paid for the new tips and installation
Here is the part # and website where I bought them seems like they raised the prices a little but still a bargain http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...A6764A0A0.aspx
I am 60 YO---a retired pro racer after a 23 year carrer so I love performance yet now hate an annoying exhaust tractor sounding note
Trust me you'll love this set up
When starting dead cold --it is raspy and loud while in open loop as soon as it warms and switches to closed loop it quites down--a lot--cruising is a happy sound---More like a supercar import sound rather than the normal low flowmaster over done rumble----However when you floor it it sounds incredible---Again more like a hi priced Lambo or Ferrari Awesome growl--not muscle car sounding like a car from the 60's----Due as I said to the STOCK 4 cats---

It's simply not believable that the car is no louder without mufflers than with. Sorry. Don
My last car was a 07' Z with cam, ARH LT's, and Corsa Sports. Car sounded absolutely amazing so I came from a pretty place to start with.
My 14' Z51 has NPP, pulled fuse #41, AFE CAI, and Corsa X-pipe. Very happy with this set up. Sounds outstanding, has a bark, but not obnoxious. Give it a try, you will like it!!!

Is there a way or mod to have the exhaust open all the time?
