GM recommends Mobil 1 5W30 full synthetic for all Corvette oil changes except for track use).

I thought all C7's came with Dexos oil 5w-30 and NOT Mobil 1
When I had my 1st free oil change they used Dexos oil which is a semi synthetic blend--

It does but I was told by Kerbeck there was a bulletin out, and some people was having problems after the first change because they stayed with Dexos .. I didn't know so I called the number on the bulletin and they told me when you do your First oil change use mobile 1 ..they said all dealerships are aware of this but some ignore it and could be reasons of engine problems ... It's confusing to me also

Dexos is a GM oil certification not a brand. Mobile 1 is the brand and it's has Dexos certification.

Ok thanks, but the small town dealership wasn't using Mobile 1, it was another brand I had to fight... GM should have a mandatory online or conf. Call to get every dealership the Bulletin bc this dealership said they have been putting the regular brand bc it was certified by GM, well it's different for corvette and all dealership should know and understand ...corvette special needs

GM has provided multiple bulletins to dealers about this. At least two that we're aware of. But they can't make the dealers read them, and they can't make the dealers pay attention. As for phone calls, if GM made phone calls to every dealer about every bulletin they'd need a call center in India that did nothing but call dealers 5 days a week. And dealers would stop answering the phone.

The truth is that you could run the GM synthetic blend in your car for it's entire life, and as long as you change the oil when the OLI tells you to you're never going to have problems due to an oil related failure. Mobil 1 is fine oil, but it's not a miracle fluid.

I wouldn't care how long it took to make calls !!! And if it was no big deal why have a bulletin at all recommending mobile 1, ? When people are having engine problems GM are asking if they used Mobile 1 because they have put a bulletin out ..so this must have some importance of they are asking

This is one of the reasons why I change my own oil.

Another reason is I will be sure of the oil going in my engine. There was a TV station that tested oil being put in by various shops. The oil change shop where I live was using cheap non-synthetic when people were paying a premium for synthetic.

You wouldn't, but GM would, and the dealers would. And the cost of all of that would get added to your cost for service, not GM's or the dealers.

The warranty requires you to use a Dexos spec oil, period. Not Mobil 1. GM can't void your engine warranty if the dealer puts in GM's own oil that meets the specification.

Why the bulletin? I suspect it's largely because they got tired of owners complaining about dealer oil changes.

mmmmm so people complaining made them create a bulletin ...strange that people complain about worse things than this oil situation since the 2015 and 2016 Z06 been out .. And this is the only thing GM rushes to creates a Bulletin for the bulletin says Recommends Mobile 1, and will reimburse those who have had to pay or pay the difference Read it or call them and hear for yourself now "PERIOD"

My 2016 C7 manual coupe is going to hit 500 miles very shortly. I will be changing the oil myself in my controlled conditions with Mobil 1. No fooling around with the dealership stories here.

OK I give up.

Mobil 1 has magic oil molecules sourced from the space program that mysteriously prevent engine wear that every other high quality oil on the market actually amplifies. If you don't run M1 in your Corvette your engine is almost certain to grenade in the first 6 months. And GM put an oil cap that reads Dexos on the LT1 just so their dealers can get more practice doing engine replacements.

Ask them why, what? Why Dexos meets all warranty requirements for GM cars, including the Corvette? Why the oil cap reads "Dexos"? Why Mobil spends a ton of money to have GM market their product for them?

We know that mobile 1, has the Dexos LOGO, to meet and exceed GM, maybe a blend is not better than a full, maybe with all engine problems they noticed the cars didn't have Mobile 1, neither here or there ..there's a bulletin follow it or if something goes wrong it's too late to ask questions and you're be feeling like an ***..because they don't put bulletins out to sponsor mobile 1, if that was the case then they would say all GM cars, It's a fact a proven fact that mobile is better quality than the standard oil, so they want the best in their 100k race car and you're the kind of person that says oil is oil and a engine is an engine ...I was once told "A Hard Head Makes A Soft ***" time will tell ...
