Purchased a previously owned '15 Z51/2LT on 05/05/15 with ~3000 miles on it, GM Certified Pre-owned vehicle. Local car and known history. After transferring OnStar to my name noticed that Nav system/GPS not working. Not noticed before that. Worked with OnStar to correct but unsuccessful. First trip to the dealership on 06/01/15 resulted in them not having necessary tools to troubleshoot (SD disk for the PDR and a computer to read the disk). Second trip back on 06/08/15 and they found that they still couldn't communicate with the car because they needed a "special cable". Cable ordered and then the wait began. Cable finally received on 10/06/15 (manufacturer had quality control issues)! In the interim I had asked
if any other Chevy dealership had a cable that they could borrow, told no. Car back to dealership on 10/07/15 and after a couple of days advised they needed to order a "radio module" and would need to keep the car. I asked where the module was located and was told they thought it was "in the dash". This raised concerns on my part about them tearing into the dash which I expressed and asked that they let me know when the part was received so I could come up to the dealership. A week later told that part had been received and installed but hadn't needed to get into dash but problem still not resolved.
Now told GM engineers need to come and see vehicle BUT now the dash needs to be opened up BEFORE engineers will come. Also
told this is FIRST time GM has encountered this problem. Now big concern is how many other problems/issues are going to result from taking the dash apart! Anyone had any experience with the dash being taken apart? As of now, I am trying to gather more information before I go forward with this. Thanks in advance for any information or help any one can provide.
the Red X problem surfaces on C7's that also have the
PDR option. If this is what you are experiencing, it's an easy fix. The dealer should be able to correct it; there's a bulletin on it.
The fix for the red-x problem does not require a module replacement; the dash is not involved.
Here's more info on it. I didn't read the whole thread, but there's a dealer in Florida that you might be able to have your dealer contact. Might be worth a call or two at least.
There is also an OnStar hardware recall on some VINs that reportedly also cures some of the GPS red X problems. Other than that, it's been the pinched cable up by the PDR camera as mentioned previously.
Before I drove my new 2016 off the lot last month, the nav showed my location as Bowling Green, KY with no GPS reception. Similar "Red X" issue, and I do have the PDR camera option. But the dealer checked it out and determined that the GPS antenna was defective. I brought it in again for replacement, but they ordered the wrong antenna and told me the proper GPS antenna is not even available in Chevrolet parts inventory. Spoke to GM and they confirmed they are not currently available (they may actually have them in stock, but know they are defective, so it could be that they are not currently providing them to dealers until they get a new batch or supplier).
Although I consider this unacceptable, I do have Apple CarPlay, so I can project my iPhone navigation onto the display if I need it.

Interesting.
with the often reported "Red-X" problem... the fix requires no parts replacement; just attention to a cable running to the PDR camera location - in the vicinity of the inside center rearview mirror.
I didn't want the dealer to take my new Corvette apart, even for something that may be simple. I found the dealer procedure pages covering this "fix" and did the job myself. The Red-X problem went away completely. Though, yours may actually be a defective part that needs replacement...
