If you install a cam that still uses VVT and DOD you are extremely limited as to max lift and duration---Most all of those cams are very mild and will only make an additional 30-35 HP---
Now If you do a VVT and DOD delete the cam choices become endless---You can go to Texas Speed's website where they have dyno results of such cam installations where the HP gains are around 100 HP !!!!!!!

and that's great and all but what about when the cam phaser goes out, or if dowel pin on the single bolt cam breaks and ruins your heads or engine?

vvt is a good thing but a S%#&ty design.

just looking to see who's all got 3 bolt cam swaps in there c7

could be wrong as i dont follow up on LT1 cams. But in the LS motor everyone went 3 bolt cam. it was the normal thing to do. I am guessing most cams offered with the LT1 are 3 bolt.

Maybe 3-bolt if AFM deleted? But VVT retained? And then there's the fuel lobe.

keep the fuel lobe, and delete the vvt... get rid of the phaser and 1 bolt... just have 3 bolt and cam gear..

used to delete VVT because no one knew how to tune for it but that was like 10 years ago. no need to delete VVT due to "reliability issues."

AFM on the other hand, remove that at your first oil change!

Anytime you change cams or heads you risk having an early engine failure due to extreme stress on your engine--this is nothing new--So your best bet is to go woith a company that has the most experience in adding larger cams and DOD delete and VVT limiting----Texas Speed seems to be he leader in new technology with the new LT1 engine---If you are worried about possible failures then leave your engine STOCK---No rocket science here----But if you wanna be a big dog you need to get off the porch----

I'm just asking about cams man.. not asking for opinions.

everything on my car engine wise is aftermarket/upgraded. nothing is stock about my car...

I guess I'll be sticking with the vvt till someone comes out with a 3 bolt cam with a fuel lobe for a c7...

What is the difference between a 1 bolt cam and a 3 bolt cam (besides the obvious cam gear bolt pattern at the end)? These motors are all new to me :-)

vvt... variable valve timing... you have this with the single bolt cam. that adjusting timing at different rpm for maximum power and performance. but if the cam phaser (upper gear) goes out or dowel pin breaks it can seriously trash your motor.

3 bolt cams doesn't have vvt and doesn't adjust timing accordingly. it's more secure and has less object's to go out and screw up your engine.

vvt is actually a great thing.. but a horrible design.

I would get rid of the VVT every time.

I am just wondering, if its such a bad design. Why don't we see more failures with them seeing how every engine has VVT now. This is a real question, not disagree with you.
