Default Hatch Repair ???

I have a crack on the rear deck lid just about where the latch is. I went to two dealers today to get information about getting it fixed under warranty. One dealer said it can’t be repaired and the hatch has to be replaced. The other dealer says they can fix it, but won’t say how or if it will be guaranteed not to crack again.

If you’ve had the same problem and had a GM dealer fix it, please let me know what they did and if you’re satisfied with the fix or did the crack return?

Thanks.

I would go with the guy who wants to replace it. Either way the hatch will have to be painted. You might as well start out with a new one. This isn't a question of saving some money. Replacement is the correct repair this isn't like welding steel where a repair may be stronger than the original piece.

You can get a new hatch, but if you do not change how you close it, it will just crack again...
Best method is still to open a side door and drop it from about a foot so it latches under its own weight.
